PSN Compromised:This is What is really Happening![NEW 05/9]

By now all us ps3 users have heard about the PSN issue(if you have not i suggest you come out from your cave) The news is everywhere! However, what does this mean for us, the PSN users who's information has been compromised?

You May ask, hey there OP how do you know are information has been stolen? Do you work for SONY or are you trolling? My answer to both those questions is NO and NO.

Sony has sent a majority(all im assuming, some claim that they have yet to receive an email) of their PSN members an E-mail stating that its user's information has indeed been compromised. Such things include:

"INFORMATION THAT YOU PROVIDED: NAME, ADDRESS (CITY, STATE, ZIP, COUNTRY) EMAIL ADDRESS, BIRTH-DATE, PLAYSTATION NETWORK/QRIOCITY PASSWORD AND LOG IN AND HAND-HELD/PSN ONLINE ID. IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT YOUR PROFILE DATA, INCLUDING PURCHASE HISTORY AND BILLING ADDRESS(CITY, STATE, ZIP) AND PLAYSTATION NETWORK/QRIOCITY PASSWORD SECURITY ANSWER MAY HAVE BEEN OBTAINED. IF YOU HAVE AUTHORIZED A SUB ACCOUNT FOR YOUR DEPENDENT, THE SAME DATA WITH RESPECT TO YOUR DEPENDENT MAY HAVE BEEN OBTAINED. WHILE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE AT THIS TIME THAT CREDIT CARD DATA WAS TAKEN, WE CANNOT RULE OUT THE POSSIBILITY. IF YOU HAVE THROUGH PLAYSTATION NETWORK OR QRIOCITY OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION WE ARE ADVISING YOU THAT YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER(EXCLUDING SECURITY CODE) AND EXPIRATION DATE MAY HAVE BEEN OBTAINED."

This is the part where i get in SONY's ass:
1)How is a billion dollar company going to allow such things to happen?
2)Sony, knowing that there was a "External intrusion" shut down the PSN servers on April 20th, 2011. Yet, the people are now being made aware that(April 26, 2011), "hey these really bad people possibly have all your personal information...sorry we dint let you know as soon as we suspected anything...and again sorry if they maxed out your credit card"*SARCASM* Its sorry, sorry, sorry everything with these guys.

In regards to the bolded text in the quote above: Is sony living in the damn stone age? Let me get this straight, a hacker hacks YOUR system! and you have no idea what they were able to obtain? Not to mention this is a week later after an "investigation" has been conducted! What a joke!

Question: Why are you picking on PSN...Xbox Live went down as well!
Answer: True, but not in the way many of you are claiming.
1)Xbox Live went down(true)
2Microsoft gave a weeks notice(true)
3)Most people were back on live within a couple hours(true)
4)not everyone was affected(true)
5)did it take some people as long as 2 weeks to get back on(true)
6)people's personal information WAS compramised(FALSE)

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Image

I posted this because i want you guys to be aware of the potential dangers. Grown-ups you know what you have to do. To the younger crowd with your parent's C/C info on your ps3, YOU HAVE TO LET THEM KNOW! It's not your fault PSN got hacked, it is also not your fault that you have been made aware of this a week to late(possibly) Your parents will understand. Also, SINCE YOUR EMAIL AND PASSWORD HAS BEEN COMPROMISED THAT MEANS YOU MUST CHANGE IT FOR ANY OTHER ACCOUNT YOU HAVE THAT INCLUDES THE SAME INFORMATION: XBOX LIVE, AMAZON, YAHOO ETC. Its better to be safe than sorry.

peace out guys!

*UPDATE 04/28/11*

1) I know most of you guys have stated that you would like to see Anonymous burn. Well i got some ok news for you violent people out there(lol). While 40 anonymous hackers have been arrested, it is not in connection with the attack on psn.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107389-FBI-Executes-Search-Warrants-on-40-Anonymous-Members

2)PSN as of 04/27/11, could possibly be down for another week. http://www.dualshocknexus.com/2011/04/psn-will-be-live-again-soon.html

*UPDATE 5/3/2011*
Apparently, Sony Online Entertainment(SOE) has had their servers hacked for nearly a month now. Needless to say, they are now releasing that information. Also, in fact, those of you that play SOE game online, must know that all your info has been compromised. Credit card, address, etc.(the whole sha-bang-bang in lamen's terms) The funny thing is that it only took Sony to release this info 6 hours after shutting down their SOE servers. As apposed to the psn where in took them 6 days after shutting down their servers. Try to defend this one Sony drones.

SOE=

In other news PSN, as of right now, is still down. Maybe tomorrow. ARGGHHH!!!!

*UPDATE 5/9* Whats up playstation users. Well here i am with another update. I decided to do this in order to keep posts more organized and to avoid thread spamming. Anyways.........

The full PSN services/qriocity services may not be up until May 31st. Sure, online play, chat and PS home may be up before then; however, word on the "streets" is that the full PSN ,as we know it, may not be fully restored until may 31st.

NOT TALKED ABOUT: What about Netflix users? How long do they have to wait before netflix is up and running for them?

Meanwhile if the weather in your area seems nice the pic demostrated below doesnt seem like such a bad idea now does it? LMFAO

IT ONLY DOES......GREEN EGGS AND HAM LMAO

LMFAOOOOOOOO wait wait wait, put what sony said in my own words? explain! lol the only thing i got from sony was the big quoted portion in the middle with those things called quotation marks(facepalm) MS brought down their service for major maintenance due to hacking(they announced they would do so a week before). But if you had an xbox 360 when this happened, you wouldnt be sounding like a complete retard right now. I remember it as if it were yesterday man. Playing Halo 3 with my buds and we all began talking about how live was going to go down. So, shut up jack-ass.

My point is that these are sony's services and security software(128bit) and they cant tell us what was retrieved a week later after an investigation had begun? please fanboy, to the sidelines you go

@LethalY-DosEd...well suspecting you were a fanboy from your initial post, i go and look in the "psn outage news" forum and hey what do i find "yeah bill gates wants more butthole to raqe with XBOX live"...sure enough you are a mindless sony drone and i have no time for you. Good day sir.

*sidenote* ever since 2008 bill gates doesn't even run things at Microsoft...sure he has stocks and investments with them, but he is not the head guy up there...you see why fanboys like you fail? lol

LMFAO but what they wrote in the rest of the post if common knowledge, (experian, equifax and the other one i forget the name) that is mandatory if you believe you have been a victim of identity theft. So, they really dint give any new information. Besides, a majority of people received that message via email. I wasnt going to type the whole thing lol

"mocrosoft is a godamn ripoff their an american corp" Sad to inform you Jr., but all Corp are after your money. You think sony is this godsend or second coming of jesus that will make everything better? Hell no! They dint tell people that their personal info was at risk because they were afraid of the repercussions(people selling their ps3s etc. they screwed up either way)

be a little mature please. calling me a "dumb jew" isnt going to bring psn back up LMAO. What are you 15? Thanks for admitting that you are a fanbich, im done with you(i dont deal with fanboys)

maybe this vid will make it all better

I dont think PSN will be back for a while to be quite honest, i may be wrong, but i think its a huge job to do that, and we're looking at another few days.

they stated to be building either the network or portions of the network from the ground up. I wouldn't be surprised if this went on for another week or two.

True mate, for example the fact there has been no timeframe for a week now, ok so they have "just" found out whats up, but still. if they dont know how long it takes to make a server(s), then its a long wait i guess

They are rebuilding from the inside out so server to server quickly but as professionally as possible, so there will be no major errors or craptastic fck ups when the network does re appear to for use.

the last thing they want is to bring PSN up only for it to crash again and people to start biitching a second time.... they are crunching themselves but at the same time taking every precaution they can....

Some d!k head hacker jailbroke the PS3/PSN, showed other d!k head hackers how to do it on YT, and now we're at this point in time pointing fingers and blaming everyone when theirs only two people to blame.( the person who showed, and the person who hacked the network).

iCrytekFreAk ,
Thanks for the info man-- I'm sure some people here will appreciate this info.
But some of us like myself that went crazy not being able to play the exact day PSN went offline- then you do allot of research online.
I know I keep checking on my ps everyday and I look online for any new info.

I hope the PSN is back up and running soon and I hope these hackers stop messing with us.

I'm glad you xbox guys aren't going through this crap. I might have to pick one up down the road just incase something like this comes up again.

It seems that TC forgot to mention.

Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

"There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic anolysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon."

TC just because Sony is multi-billion dollar Company doesn't mean this can't happen. Didn't one XBL Top Cops Stepto get hacked recently?
Also there's a possibility that customers CC information could have been stolen. Stop implying that it was.

Who knows. I know that my details are compromised, but that's it.

The FFA UK have said there's no need to cancel my card just yet. At least the data was encrypted.

Can get you a pound to a penny that Microsoft will be double checking their own security though, making sure it is indeed watertight. And for Live users sake, I hope it is. They shouldn't have to go through what us PS3 gamers are suffering.

My my, why are you guys indenial? If they shut the services down, then that means that they must have known hackers were in their system. They should also know more or less what things can be compromised as a result. I will post a link to a vid on youtube where a guy says that he had 450 dollars taken already from his account(he is a popular youtuber with many followers and by his tone was not trolling)

ITS DISGUSTING TO SEE PEOPLE GERRING SHAFTED TRY AND DEFEND SONY.

Not that I am feeling in the mood to jump to Sony's defense right now, but something doesn't feel right about that guy. I'm not saying someone didn't steal a load of cash, but there's so far been no links between PSN and credit card fraud. If people's accounts were being drained, there'd be lawsuits flying left, right and center. So that guy could've been ripped off, heard the news about Sony, and put 2+2 together.

Though the FFA UK have said there's no need to cancel our cards yet, so i'm not flipping out. Some people on here are a bit paranoid though.

yea i know what you mean. My intentions arent to alarm anybody. But, cancelling your card is not that hard. You call let them know what is up and within 7-10 days you get a new one. That painless.

I would understand if sony came out and said that there is no need to cancel your card at all because no info was taken. However, they are saying not to cancel it, until they finish investigating. That is not a risk i am willing to take: Letting these hackers use or sell my C/C information while we wait for an investigation to fully finish.

Once the investigation is done and no one's credit info was compromised, thats all fine and great. But, what if they come out next week and say indeed it was compromised? Like i said earlier better safe than sorry. I completely understand what you mean though.

keyword: no need to cancel your cards YET.

Agreed. If the FFA say to cancel or suddenly credit card fraud is on the rise for PSN users, its getting cancelled.

Well, i know everyone wont agree with me but that's fine with me. Anyways, the benefit of owning both consoles are truly very rewarding. Honestly, i dont know what i would be doing on days when im not too busy doing something with the current situation psn is going through. I wasn't much of an xbox gamer myself, but after putting in some time on xbox live with the gears of war 3 beta, i must say that im not missing psn or playing my ps3 as much right now. Im really kicking myself in the ass at the moment.

Xbox version of crysis 2 did not only receive a patch, it actually works when you go to play online(seems like everytime i make a decision regarding a multiplatform game, i always regret it.

*SPECULATION/UPDATE* PSN WILL POSSIBLY BE DOWN FOR ANOTHER WEEK!
