A pure mage's gear

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:32 am

Hi all,

I am wondering: what does your pure mage wear and what does he carry around as backup gear ? What potions do you always have on yourself ?

I am also opened to suggestions about what you think I should wear.

I am lvl 55 and I am currently wearing:

Archmage's robes
The Mage's Boots: 56 fire res, 56 cold res
The Mage's Circlet: -29% casting cost on destruction and conjuration
The Mage's Gloves: +74 magicka, +44 carrying capacity
The Mage's Necklace: -29% casting cost on destruction and conjuration
The Mage's Ring: +74 magicka, -29% casting cost on destruction

I also carry around the following items:
The Traveler's Shoes: +44 carrying capacity, +56 shock resistance
The Lockpicker's Ring: 48% easier lockpicking, -29% casting cost on alteration

Masque of Clavicus vile
Merchant's Necklace: 29% better prices, +44 carrying capacity
Merchant's Robes: -29% casting cost on alteration and illusion (need clothing for when I put on Masque of Clavicus vile because that removes the Archmage's Robes)

I also carry some cure disease potions, some magic resistance potions, some fortify destruction potion, a fortify barter potion and some little things like that.

And finaly I carry the Black Star to soul trap bandits every once in a while.

I don't have much experience with mages but I will say you have one mighty fine loadout. I think I may give this idea a go.

You already have a very, very good loadout. My pure mage wears Apprentice Robes of Alteration since I specialize in Alteration magic.
I'm wearing unenchanted boots and a novice hood. I always carry a small amount of health and magicka potions in case I get into trouble. A lunar steel sword with me as well but I never use it. I always carry some sort of Destruction staff in case I run out of magicka and magicka potions.

This is with the necromage perk and being a vampire, so everything gets boosted to 125%, also allows me to wear two circlets.

Archmage robes - 18% fortify magic schools, +62 magicka and +125% magicka regeneration.
Archmage boots (self made, fine boots) - Muffle and fire resist (around 60%). Also have a pair with stamina regeneration as vamps get none in sunlight.
Archmage gloves (self made, made from the normal brown gloves) - Fortify magicka at around +85 and fortify carry weight at around +65.
Necklace - fortify destruction and alteration at around 31%.
Ring - fortify restoration and conjuration at around 31%.
Circlet 1 - fortify destruction and alteration at around 31%.
Circlet 2 - fortify illusion and restoration at around 31%.

Pretty much it, level 66 at the moment on master and a vamp from the start. I didn't power level any skills either, took me ages to get this strong ha.

I think the Arch Mage's robes are ugly unfortunately. I wish there was more variety. I'm sure there's a mod out there that changes their appearance however.

Dozens, most likely. People sure do hate it.
I like it for my mage because of the poncho look it has. It's cute so it fits her nicely.

She usually wears the http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u476/arconacor/TESV2012-02-2415-50-47-04.jpg, though.

My pure destruction mage wears and uses only robes. I only use gear I find or am given from a quest. I have recently got the Archmage robes which are the best I have found. I was exploring a dwarven ruin and I found a ring that gives +60% Magicka Regeneration. That is the highest I've found on a ring which was so awesome. I don't use enchanting as I like to find my gear with enchants as it's more rewarding. I try to find robes or accessories that give me Magicka Regeneration or a boost to Destruction. I'm hoping to later find Master Robes of Destuction as they seem like good Robes for my mage, but for now those Archmage robes are good enough. I think those Thalmor Robes look pretty cool but not the best effect.

I was using the Archmage's robes and had to switch to Cleric Armor just because I love the way it looks.

I didn't go the enchanting route with my mage so I also only wear gear found or purchased in the game.

Currently wearing:

Masters Robes of Destruction
Peerless Circlet of Destruction
Peerless ring of Destruction (or peeless as the game calls it ha ha)
Necklace of Destruction (can't remember which)
Boots with carry weight addition

I also carry some of the gear mentioned for help with buying/selling, picking locks, ect

My main focus is destruction but I also use conjuration. Since I only use conjuration occasionally to summon a helper for fights with multiple enemies I don't feel I need any reduction or other help with it. Therefore I focused all my gear only towards destruction and I have it to the point where single cast incenerates only cost 12 magicka. That's plenty good at 56 since I put nearly all my points into magicka. I put 1 point into health and nothing into stamina. I honestly wish I had now but I do have a pure mage now. I can easly die from one shot from quite a few enemies. It's a fairly challenging character to play.

Pure Mage here:

Master Robes of Destruction: 22% cost reduction and 150% magicka regeneration.
Circlet of Eminent Destruction: 20% cost reduction (bought this at Radient Rainment in Solitude)
Ring of Recharching: Regenerate magicka 40% faster
Savos Aren's Amulet: +50 Magicka
Unenchanted Boots and Thalmor gloves. I havent really gotten around to enchanting. I investied perks into in the frost, fire, and lightning damage trees so I can use all three effectively.

Level 39 High Elf
480 Magicka 200 Health 100 Stamina
