Pure mage stealth based

Post » Thu Feb 21, 2013 5:47 pm

On my way to building a pure mage who only sneaks about. cant display the perks ive decided to take because the calc site isnt working atm. im planning on only using illusion up till the quiet casting perk and maybe using the invisibility spell.

my main questions are basically around this: do constant cast spells, even if silenced, increase the chance of an enemy finding you? say i was a vampire lord (which i am still debating on) and i am dualcasting drain life while it's silenced. does constantly hitting an enemy with it make them detect me? Also why are runes completely ignored by the spell effecting perks? cast a rune an enemy still hears the rune, its unaffected by the damage perks, havent tested necromage perk.

I imagine that once he starts taking damage he will start looking around. I think its more tooled for fire bolts and such to get a quick hit in.

well yea, you shoot a guy with an arrow, hes gonna start looking. you keep shooting he's gonna find you quick. i assume the same would occur with streaming spells only at a much faster rate as you are constantly hitting them. now if you kill him right quick you might be able to avoid detection, but it would have to be pretty quick and even then i cant guarantee it. it'd be better to hit and run. besides why would you need to lifesteal if they arent gonna be finding you?

When you damage them they will start looking for you but it doesn't necessarily mean they will see you right away especially if you are invisible. The main thing you want to do is keep moving. What I do is charge up invisibility, then charge up the damage spell, then let go of the damage spell and immediately let go of invisiblity and start moving. They will typically go to where the spell originated if they go at all. Since you will have moved they'll have no idea where you disappeared to. Depending on how close they are to you they may continue looking but usually they'll just lose track of you and go back to their normal routine.

I swear the bandits in Skyrim are Ancestors of MGS guards.

edited in another question. rune spells appear to be unaffected by quiet casting. i cast it and the enemies still always start looking for me.

Whats the use of a silent rune spell? Cast it, they walk towards you, boom they hit the rune bc you knew where they where going.

Yea it always draws them in whether you want it to or not. I typically back away a bit if I want to stay hidden. If you are just far enough away they won't hear it. Then I can back off and use Throw Voice to draw them to it. They have no idea where I'm at if I do it that way. But I almost never use Runes because my characters are all high level and they are useless except for the new one from Solstheim. That one's good for crowd control.
