One year ago today I put up my site dedicated to what I think are the most well-crafted, immersive, and lore-friendly mods for Skyrim and Oblivion. Now that Skyrim's release anniversary is in one week, I look back and see how slowly the site has progressed, but take that in stride as I realize that the site is meant to be a long-term resource for the series, not something that gets traffic all the time. There are a few reasons why the site is not updated a lot:
1. I played through the entire game without mods the first time, so that I could see clearly what a difference it would make when I installed mods in all aspects of the game.
2. I have been testing out various mods that sound promising and sometimes it is not easy to see their effect in the long term. I like to let a mod sit and get it firmly ingrained into my game; if after a while I don't even notice that it is there that is good, it just becomes part of the whole. The modded experience becomes the new experience.
3. I've been busy with trying to make my own mods and working with the modding community here on the Bethesda forums. Also, I started playing X-COM and was lost to the world for a little while.
Many people don't care about the site at all and that's fine, I'm just hoping that those that do will appreciate it and visit from time to time. I've tried to make the Skyrim page be a good, solid list for a lore-friendly, immersive game. It is small, for sure, and mods are added slowly, but in the end I think this is the best way to really get a good list. Another reason the mod list is so small is that some mods from around the CK release are no longer actively supported, and I'm trying to make sure most (if not all) of the mods on ESPurist are in good order and keeping up with the latest Bethesda updates.
I'm currently looking for a good Basic Needs mod (eating, sleeping, etc.) I know there are a few out there, one came out fairly recently. I have tried Imp's, did not care for it. If you have recommendations for a good basic needs mod please let me know here. Also any other suggestions for mods are totally welcome if you think they would fit well with the site. I go on binges of rabidly looking up mods and downloading them to try, and then will have a period of not downloading any mods at all, so if you have suggestions of some I might have missed in the last few months I will certainly look into them.
Thank you to all that have visited, hope to see you again when you feel like modding your Skyrim and need a good mod list to start out with. In the future I plan to add a section explaining why I did not include such-and-such popular mod, or why I felt whatever mod was not immersive or lore-friendly, etc. so that anyone who is curious can at least know some of my experience with the mod and decide for themselves if they agree with me or not.
Three cheers for Skyrim, Bethesda, the modders, and the players who support us. And please visit www.espurist.com if you don't know what in Azura's name I'm talking about.
P.S. Some people appeared put off by the character E.S. Purist in the early days of the site. He is an extension of the sometimes overly-nitpicky side of my personality, so if you find yourself affronted I ask that you not take it so seriously.
