PVP, and PVE Death Why is it any different?

Post » Fri Oct 25, 2013 4:26 am

I want to start out by saying that this is no debate on whether or not i want to be able to pvp everywhere its about the hatred of ganking. Yes its bad, but what i do not understand is how its any different from a pve death.

When i in die by a mob i take it as a grain of salt. I see where i messed up and adjust accordingly. Why can it not be any different in pvp. You do not go into a dungeon by yourself die and wonder how in the hell that happened. Then go back in die again rinse and repeat a couple of times then get upset and flame the forums about what happened.

When ganked in pvp you should take it as a grain of salt adjust accordingly and figure it out. Not flame the whole thing and say i cant take it anymore and complain to gm and the community on forums.

The final thing i want to say is everyone knows there is always one guy that does this constantly. His name is always known to everyone or at least the guild is known for it. This creates the villain or boss in a sandbox environment. Guys like this are needed, and when you die by him take note and adjust accordingly. You will get him and if you know you can't, find a way to get away. You will always see where you mess up or if you need more people. This is free content people and the way some of the community feels about it is why im talking about it. Just remember that bully is no different from a dev created boss and you will eventually win, because the gankers only have a couple tactics to work off of and fear is a big part of it. When you do finally kill him or at least put up a good fight you will see he will not mess with you as much as he did before. Especially if you start at release because there are a lot of other people around you he does not know. What do you all feel about this.

I agree, but some people view death by other players differently and may end up flipping off.

I don't understand how people get upset by "ganking" either. But I'm both competitive and laid back by nature. So on the one hand, I relish the competition. On the other hand, things don't tend to upset me.

But ya. If you don't like to die, stay out of PvP or run away when you see players.

In GW2 I did a lot of leveling in WvW. But I knew that true level 80's would destroy me. So if I saw them (identified by gear) I would run away. If they managed to track me down and kill me, I didn't think, "what a jerk. That guy ganked me."

Instead, I would think. "Boy, I need to be more careful next time. Also, I've got to keep progressing my character so I can beat guys like that."

Although I do share you viewpoint, the issue isn't that they don't want to adjust and work out a different tactic of tackeling the evil player. Some people just don't like to PvP.

There won't be no discriminance between PvP/PvE servers like there usually is. It's one big mega server and if content is mainly in cyrodiil, then PvE'rs are simply in bad luck cause they will have to traverse into PvP territory.

Love that feeling.

This and when you're low on health from fighting another player or NPC and you get attacked but you WIN. Knowing that I was at a disadvantage to start makes victory that much more sweet.

Same reason I like to beat players who are higher leveled than me or have better gear.

Also, higher leveled and higher geared players is necessary to make progression feel meaningful. One of the problems of Oblivion was that since everything leveled with you it felt as though you never got stronger. Again, allow me to mention GW2.

Me and a buddy (both lower level) were roaming in GW2 WvW. We came across a much higher level player and attacked him (thinking we could take him 2 on 1.) A really long drawn out fight ensued and it was very intense and strategic. In the end, he won.

I didn't get mad or rage that he was better. I just said, "Dang, I want to be like him." It made me want to level up and seek better gear.

EDIT REASON: I had some sweet sweat

Aye or when you are about to die and you run into aggro range of mobs and vanish that tactic saved me so many times. (@nord)

Well when you kill an NPC mob its not likely he is going to spam your whispers with profanity, log on a more powerful alt, or call his guild mates to chase you down and ruin your day. The difference is that when PvEing for the most part you are in control and in PvP your experience is left to the whims of your opponent and whether or not he had a bad day in real life so now he's going to take it out on you. So its not an issue of simply getting killed in PvP, its that ~1% that go out of their way to ruin your day that makes the rest look bad and gives the impression PvErs have.

Its generally bad form to assume that what you find acceptable behavior others should just find it acceptable as well. There's a reason why many hate and avoid PvP. So to just think well its fine by me so its fine with everyone else is just naive thinking.

I guess I'm just looking for an explanation as to why the behavior is unacceptable, seeing as how its just players following the rules of the game.

If people are abusive, like you mention (ie. following you, spamming you, ect.) then report them. That has nothing to do with PvP. Its harassment.

But ya if you don't like PvP, that's totally understandable. Don't do it then.

You'd think that the bethesda forums, general ESO discussion board would be about ESO. Else this whole thread wasn't constructive in the first place.

Since ESO is a mega-server, not dedicated PvP/PvE servers. Like I said before

If PvE content will mainly be in Cyrodiil, people who tend to avoid PvP will be forced to cross PvP territory, you don't get to choose. Hence, problem for quite some people that don't like people jumping their backs, mass PvP zergs or simple 1on1 fairplay.

The death is the same. BUT PVP deaths can be more frustrating because the other player will sometime go out of his way to kill you, or follow you, or even track you down. As where in PVE you get your self in to trouble and the death is usualy your fault. In PVE with PVP to avoid a death there is a countless list of precauses that should be taken and even some causes that you have no control over.

It has everything to do with PvP when it is the tool that is used to grief and harass.

Cyrodiil, will have PvE stuff to do, towns, quests, dungeons etc, so "not going there" isn't really an option in this game.

Besides, I answered the OP, he asked whats the difference in being killed in PvP or PvE. The difference is that in PvE you have more control as to the outcome, I kill a mob I move on, thats a 100% guarantee, in PvP you have less control and are again at the mercy of other players, some of whom get off on ruining others gameplay. So in regards to dying in combat, in PvE you simply spawn and go back to where you died and continue or do something else, in PvP there is a sizable chance its not going to be just one death and move on, its going to be a whole ordeal og getting harassed and repeatedly killed ending in a ruined gameplay session and having to get a game GM and/or report mechanics involved. A bit anecdotal sure but its a hassle some don't want to have to deal with. Thats the difference, wasn't asking for "solutions" on how to fix anything.

Because I don't need extra "challenges" the game designers didn't put in. If I go into a PvE environment, I'm willing and ready to accept the consequences of fighting a mob. Also, mobs are predictable and I typically engage them on my own.

For example, if I somebody killed by a Fel Reaver that snuck up on me though? Hell yeah people got pissed by those in BC too and complained a poop ton. If they put level 150 monsters in a level 40 zone? PEople wouldn't "adjust" they would complain.

It's not a matter of who kills you but how you die. If I got killed by somebody of equal level as me, that's not ganking. If I was level 1 and he was 90...that' a problem.

And that whole comment on "villain" is just...lmfao. No, the gaming community does not need [censored]s. It splits and destroys entire server communities if there's even one bad apple in a bunch. Entire game servers on WoW have been waylaid because of a few gankers. Why do you PvP servers are dead, and the one's that are full dead on one faction?
