Cassidy is tied to the Silver Rush, so if you want to do her quests, you need to keep them alive until the right time.

However the Van Graffs will offer you a quest to work for them independent of Cassidy. Screw up one of your jobs and your problem is taken care of. However, this way you lose the weapons.
