Quest Marker for NPC inside building doesn't show on Skyrim

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:35 pm

EDIT: I figured the issue out, or at least one way to fix it.

Hi guys. I've been reading a bunch of tutorials and I managed to get the Courier to give the player a note which starts my quest.

The quest requires the player to go to an NPC who I have placed inside a semi-custom building, that is a copy of the Sleeping Giant Inn.

The quest marker points to this character who is the alias. However, the quest marker will not appear on the map or on the player's compass until I am inside this buildings. I am missing a checkbox or a script somewhere, but I don't know where!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As a side note, I want to limit the start of stage 0 where the courier drops of his letter, to a point where the player has completed the quest where he slays his first dragon and is revealed to be a Dohvakiin. How would I go about doing that? (Don't worry about going out of your way to find an answer to this, as I am not in a hurry. If I need to, I will make a separate thread for it.)

Thanks!

Is the quest active in your active quest log? Also, make sure you've ticked the objective's aliases "Compass Marker Ignores Locks" flag is ticked if the objective is behind a locked door.

Yessir. I have clicked that option, so that the marker appears behind locked doors. Also, it is active, and the quest appears in my log as such. When I arrive at this Inn, and head inside, the marker appears over my NPC's head. But standing outside the door, it does not appear.

Edit: I see, the marker is appearing in the Sleeping Giant Inn!!!!

Thats the inn that my location is copied from. Except, my character is across the map in this duplicate location called Crux Glade. The marker is appearing on the Sleeping Giant Inn's load door. I don't have any aliases at the moment other then my NPC, and the note from the courier. What the heck is going on here, haha.

Guys, this one is killing me. I am racking my brain over this one, and I have done everything I can find, and everything I can mess around with, to fix it... short of deleting the load doors for the Sleeping Giant Inn and making them again. I am afraid to do this as I might screw something else up, which I'd like to avoid.

Does anyone have any idea whatsoever, even if they aren't sure?

Your interior cell has probably still got the vanilla inn's http://www.creationkit.com/Location. In the cells list, right-click on your cell and then click edit. IIRC, go to the second tab, then there is a location drop down. You may have to make your own location (don't forget the parents. when in doubt check a vanilla example out :P)

I did what I dreaded out of desperation.

It was a Navmesh issue. When I deleted the Sleeping Giant Inn load door, it gave an error of some reference to the navmesh of my copied location.

After reinstalling the Sleeping Giant Inn load doors, I am good to go. I just hope I didn't mess up the Blades questline somehow.
