Question about Dawnguard's quests.

Hi. I haven't looked at a guide or something for this because I don't want to spoil anything for myself, so maybe someone can help. I haven't started DG yet, I've started a new character and I'm doing a few other things but I want to start before too long. The way I approach the guilds is to try and move them along at roughly the same rate. I don't want to finish one, becoming it's leader and then start another one doing the entry level quests. I've started the main quest and the Companions, and I intend to do DG.

So my question is when I start DG will they send me out in the world for the first quests, thus allowing me to carry on with my other stuff? Or is it more like when you start DG you have to play through it to the end? In which case I will leave it until I've finished everything else (I would quite like to get my armour and crossbow though).

Thanks very much.

It's basically just like the other guilds. You complete it at your own pace and can stop whenever you want. Right now I'm maybe only a quarter of the way through it and the story is getting pretty deep so I stopped to go and complete some other non-dawnguard quests around Skyrim that needed to be taken care of before I get back into it.

When I first did DG I did play it through to the end. But there is no need and I now flit from DG to vanilla at will  !
