Question about heavy armor as mage.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 1:42 pm

If you can simply disenchant a robes 50% mana regen, and enchant this on to heavy armor - then whats the point of not using heavy armor as a mage?

Is there a hidden penalty for casting in heavy?

Whoa, nice question, just when I thought robes where better.

Maby you can't enchant it as powerful, probably only 10 or 25%.

What are the downsides to wearing heavy or light armor as a mage? does it make your magic weaker or something? It has to..

I hear the enchantment doesn't count against the limit on robes.

I've read somewhere it affects your Magicka regen, I don't know if it's because of those enchants on robes or if going unarmored actually boosts regen by itself. Just test it, spend your Magicka naked and see how many seconds it takes to fill the bar up again, then repeat with a full set of heavy armor.

Meaning the +50% mana regen will count as 2 enchantments on heavy armors or? O.o (Meaning enchanting is a req. for the enchant to "fit" on heavy) Im speculating atm meh... wish there were more info.

Well I just found the best build for this. I can put all enchantments on Light Armor, including mana regen. In addition if you use Atronach sign which gives you 50% spell absorb, +50 mana and -50% mana regen you could overcome the greatest weakness of battlemages, and by using enchanting you will easily get all the mana regeneration you can need.

I advise againt heavy armor since it doesn't give you 10% evasion and stamina regen, you do not want to just stand and cast but you will have to kite to survive.

Ehh for now my mage has a few enchantments. I picked leather armor with Destruction spells cost 1% less magika && magika regens 10% faster. But to throw this out there, when you unenchant something to enchant it to something else, it does weaken the ability.

Used to be 12% less magika for destruction spells from the robe i got it from.

It's cause your enchantment skill is low, and you need to use stronger soul gems

You get that from perks or by default by wearing light armor?

Light armor almost always comes with stamina bonuses. 10% dodge is a perk in the end of the light armor tree.

What Im curious about is... why the hell this guys hints at needing stamina as a battle mage.

Stamina is pretty useless for any mage + hybrid imo. Why? 2 power attacks drains the whole stamina bar for me without investment. That means 5 levels of stamina is required for 1 additional power attack. Seems to me stamina is the most expensive resource for doing damage. As a hybrid involving mage your damage should come from spells, autoattack with enchanted weapons and summons imo.

So you can enchant light armor with mana regen, but not heavy armor, right?
