Question about invisibility and sneak attacks... ?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 5:05 pm

I was thinking about building a character based on x15 dagger sneak attack. In order to do this with multiple enemies around I would need to go invisible after each kill having been "detected" by the other enemies in the group.

Question: If I'm first detected but go invisible (enemy is looking for me, but I'm invisible) when I attack them will I get the sneak attack multiplier?
Technically they are alerted to my presence but don't know where I am. Will the multiplier apply?

Because if it doesn't work the character would be almost useless as I would only be able to get x15 on the first enemy and not the others in the group that were alerted to my presence when I killed the first guy.

Anyone else with an Alteration skill at 75 (so you can buy invisibility) who can turn invisible can confirm this? Thanks ^ I mean, I would think it would work but does it really.

Using an invisibility potion and then running and hiding should work. You don't need the 100 sneak perk to run and hide IF you run a LONG ways away. Using an invis potion should cut the distance down a bit. I imagine the 100 sneak perk is akin to running around just a single corner and hiding.

So the enemy has to stop being "alerted" to my presence for the multiplier to work even though they wouldn't be able to see me? (they have to be "on patrol" again?)

Update: I activated the stone that lets you go invisible once per day and pulled out a dagger to test.
Results: You can attack an enemy (while others are around) , go invisible and run 10 paces away and then crouch, even if they were five paces behind you they loose sight of you. Heres the best part: even though they are aware someone is lurking about, if you attack while still invisible and crouched you get the multiplier. (only seems to work when attacking from back or sides of enemy but not the front... could be because my sneak was only 25 with only the first +20% sneak perk.

So in short if you want to create a character based on the x15 dagger sneak bonus you can. You start to see good results when sneak is about 40 and your magica is 230 as invisibility costs 111 magic to cast without any perks on Illusion. Illusion skill also has to be 75 in order to buy invisibility spell from mages college. So, focus on magica (for Invisibility and Illusion), one handed and sneak = x15 every time. (and thats without that item that x2 your sneak attacks which would make every strike x30!

Happy this works.

With a sneak skill at 75 - 100 and that "crouch people loose track of you" perk and invisibility I bet you could attack, go invisible right in front of the guy, crouch and strike again for repeated x30 multipliers!

Where can you find x2 items to sneak attack? That sounds like pure win.

I have sneak 100 and I barely even want invis. I'm Rambo, Batman, the Punisher and a Ninja all rolled into one!

Not sure where to get it, but it says there are actually a couple items like this in the strategy guide. "x2 sneak damage" is explanation of 3 or 4 items.
