question about a knockback ability

so i created a perk that causes a knockback on hit. The effect uses the voicepusheffectscript...
it is hilarious.
but anyways, when it's used, the targets sort of go up, like they got a mike tyson uppercut rather than being sent backwards, which is the effect i was going for.
is there a tweak you can think of that would create the desired effect (that is, taking the target off their feet and sending them backwards a bit)?
