Question about loading times

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 4:45 am

Anyone else on Pc having long loading times?

I should be loading faster than it is, sometimes it loads quickly but mot of the time the game takes 2-3+ minutes to load.
I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem on the PC.

I have a AMD 6 core at 2.9 Ghz
8 Gigs of DDR 3 1066
XFX 5870.
Standard HDD, 7200 RPm.
Others are saying the game loads so fast they don't have time to read the tips, while it takes ages for it to load in my case.

I've got 8 Gigs of DDr 1600mhz RAM. An i5-2500k processor and a GTX560ti videocard, and the same type of Hard Disk.. I'm running the game with all settings (except the resolution) maxed, and to be honest the loading times are so short that I can barely take a look at the 3D figures that appear.

That's my case, but it's because I have Skyrim loaded on an SSD.

No problems with load times for me. Main menu loads very fast and the transition between interior / exterior is about 3 seconds

Have you defragged your Hard drive?

It should only take seconds... you may have a bad cable to your hard drive, even a fragged drive couldn't be that slow. Your drive is ~50 times too slow. A fragged drive might be half the speed, but nothing like this.
If you have an extra SATA cable laying around replace your current cable, with the computer off. Or swap with the one on your DVD drive.
Constant transmit errors from the drive and retransmission of the data leads to terrible performance... I have seen drives generating tens of millions off errors per minute.

If that isn't it, it may be a driver issue with your drive controller.
I'm an IT consultant, those are my two best guesses, good luck :)

My load times are so short I can barrely manage to make out what the object is, not to say READ the damn text.
I really wanted to read what it said about the saber cat, which I obviously couldnt miss, but before I thought of it the game had loaded.

Well I have something else I am going to try first.
Otherwise Battlefield 3 and Rage played perfectly fine. This is the first time I have had this issue.

What I am going to do is wipe steam and the game and save my game files. Then reinstall it all and see if that fixes it.
I doubt that it is a bad drive, or a cable but you never know. Thanks for the suggestion.
After I wipe steam and the game ill make sure it was not a issue there.

No idea now, other games working fine. Skyrim is loading really slow and among my friends I am the only one with this problem.
I tried a new cable, tired a fresh install (the game and steam) and now I am out of ideas.

I am out of ideas, nothing ahs worked. The game is great as long as I do not have to switch betwen areas. Once I get it to load the game is fine.

None of my other games are having any issues, BF3 works fine as did Iracing.

Anymore ideas, please?

Going to bring this back up top with something I found.

If I alt tab out of the game and back in (when it lets me) the game loads as soon as I tab back in. If I alt-ctrl-del and then hit cancel (windows 7) the game loads instantly.
However if I sit and wait the game takes 30 seconds to a few minutes to load at times, yet other times it loads instantly without my help.

I am sure this means something to someone, but I am not sure what and who. If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Thanks.

Some of the fatest load times I've ever experienced in a game. It's literally:

Run Skyrim from Steam, click play
Bethesda logo pops up, menus appears 5 seconds later
Click continue
Game loads in about 5 seconds
Play
Enter house
Interior loads up in about 2 seconds
Go back outside
Outside loads up in about 2 seconds

My initial load is pretty long, all after that are <5 seconds. Good enough for me but apperantly slower than a lot of people here.

there has to be something that is not set right, something on my system is causing this.

I have tried all manner of AA and AF setting in the AMD overdrive, I tried auto saves off, I tried AA and AF off. For some reason if I tab away from the game it will load right up just fine. The only thing I know left to try is windowed mode (bah) and V-sync settings.
The game will load up just as fast as I tab away or hit alt-crtl-del or tab out.
Otherwise it just sits there loading for minutes.

Playing in windowed mode (yuck) at native resolution yielded results.
A bit of a load time at start up, and almost instant loads in area translations.

No idea why this affects the game, but it does for me.

If it loads quickly for you in windowed then I recommend trying this: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4

They're actually almost too fast, I can never read the cool loadscreens because the load takes about 2 seconds. :D

I'm certainly not complaining.
