Well you can craft more expensive jewelry with them, don't think they'll useful for anything else though.

I read somewhere that you may need them for a quest at some point. Specific types.. the only one I recall reading specifically was the Flawless Amethyst.. but there were 3-4 listed that someone might ask for later.

They are useful for some quests, especially the flawless gems.

Also, if you craft jewelry from them (this doesn't take a high Smithing skill) you can sell them for a LOT more than you could sell the gems and metallic ingots by themselves.

A gem may bring in 100 gold by itself, and a gold ingot 40-50 gold, but combine them and you can get jewelry worth hundreds of gold.

There are some side quests where people want different types or you can make jewelry with them... other than that I tend to sell them.

Okay thank you for the advice!

If I craft them into jewellery, is it possible to then enchant it and make it even more valuable? (Not explored this type of path before you see)
Also, prices, people pay me very poor rates, can we haggle at all on here or does it just depend on speechcraft level perhaps?

Jewelry also seems to give you far more smithing XP than creating weapons or armour of similar material costs. I leveled much faster off of crafting silver amethyst rings, for example, than I did Dwemer bows.

Edit: And yes, jewelry can be enchanted to get even more value out of them, though until your Enchant skill is high enough, the value change won't be huge compared to the price of a soulgem.

1. Yes

2. Prices get better as your speech goes up AND/OR there are items you can find that make your speech/prices better
