My question about TESO

Post » Thu Dec 05, 2013 5:04 am

Hey, first post here, but I do have a concern pertaining to the console version of TESO. I will start off by saying that I am a huge fan of the series and started with playing Morrowind on the original Xbox. I do not have plans to play on PC, just the Xbox One.

- I have played the console version of Diablo 3 since release. What worries me is what happened with Diablo 3 upon release. Modded weapons/stats. Players would create a character save file onto a USB drive, plug it into their computer, and load up a program that would allow them to change the stats of the character and the item's stats. This resulted in players who would be able to one shot any enemy in the game and take no damage. Item duping and gold duping was also an easy process, which just used an exploit by returning to the Xbox home screen during a trade or drop. There may not be much information yet on the console version, but has the developer mentioned anything about this? Would there even be a way to keep this from happening on TESO? If the developer is not aware of this potential problem what is the best way to make contact with them?

Well, since this an MMO, character progress isn't saved player side. There's no way to get a save file, edit it and load it up in game.

There may be hacking and exploits, but hopefully Zenimax will be able to deal with that easily. Plus a lot of key files aren't stored player side either. edit: Also, a lot of launchers 'check' files prior to game start to ensure they match what the player should have and will redownload files that are inconsistant.

The possibility of losing their subscription money will also keep a lot of players online.

Welcome to these hallowed halls. Captain Morgan has authorized me to dispense 1 (one) stick of fishiness.

Regarding your question, I can safely assure you that the devs have this in hand. Hacks and exploits are a serious issue for any MMO, and ZOS has hundreds of millions of dollars invested into this project. Their owners (Zenimax Media) would hang them out to dry if they didn't at least attempt to enforce security.

Not gonna happen because like DevenTarn said most of the information isn't saved client side, its on the server.

People will try and ZOS will stop them. Modding, which is in this case a type of exploit, is not possible in MMOs with good developer oversight.

Welcome to the forums.

Like others have said no character saves client side its all via the server ZOS side of things. All you have is a window into that world that will allow you to control that character and where they go, which is the game data on the disc or HDD.
