Question about the mysterious vampire traveller

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:09 am

I've heard of this guy on another forum, apparently he's a non hostile npc who will walk around cities, enter a building and then kill the people inside there.

Is this some kind of myth? like the bigfoot in GTA etc. Also is it known whether he can respawn or not. Probably too soon to tell right?

All I know is that he sneaks into buildings and owns NPCs. I suggest you own his bottom. :drag:

Before vampires attack citizens, they are called "Traveler"s. These are the city attacks everyone is griping about.

Oh I had heard there were two separate types of attack, like where about 3 vampires spawn inside the city. I guess that is the bug that was mentioned.

So any info about how to deal with these fellows. Do they sneak into buildings or only attack people in the streets?

I never heard of a vampire attacking "inside houses" but have seen the traveler near the gate(s) when you enter Whiterun. Just walk up to him and he will start the attack. At least that is what happened to me.

If they do enter buildings, no damage will be done until you enter yourself (otherwise the cell won't load).

Personally I've never seen that happen. But just stay vigilant, and attack people with glowing eyes.

That was my reasoning as well, from a coding perspective I didn't understand how combat could happen in an unloaded cell. But I heard about one guy who walked into the grey mane house and found a dead npc in there.

I'm fairly aware of my surroundings, so if this guy spawns near the gate every time I'll have no issues dealing with him. Only thing is if he spawns at the other end of the city.

Cha, not always. I've entered both Markarth and Riften only to watch guards tearing clear across the city, and they were always heading to a vampire attack scene. Ony exception is the Riften thief event.

Sorry. The only town I experienced the attacks was in whiterun. Thanks for the info

I have another question also. Can these attacks be prevented by not fast travelling?

Or only entering towns during the day.

Those are low born thin bloods, Vampires aren't a monolithic evil.

They tend to be lessened, but still definitely occur.

They finally got the cow.... Oh that poor cow. As I've said before, Riverwoods been dead for a while, I just pased through there, and a Master Vampire and two death hounds were killing the cow. Pretty much the only living thing left in Riverwood. Oh poor cow.

I just read on another Forum that Farengar is one of the casualties of this fellow. How can that even happen since he never leaves the Jarl's palace?

Okay I did a bit of research myself into this but I'd appreciate some more input of anyone has any.

I got this guy to spawn for me in Riverwood, after exiting Alvor's house at about 11pm. I wanted to see what he would do so I just watched. He wasn't in sneak mode like I've heard reported, and he was just walking. If you get close to him, he sort of tries to home in on you and walk towards you. If you back off, he just walks out of the town gates without trying to enter a building. If you get close, or let him get close then he will attack you.

Now I haven't seen what he does in other places, such as walled cities etc, where he might have some more specific patrol data. But I'm still trying to figure out whether this thing about him entering buildings and decapitating people is some kind of myth or not. I've only seen this reported on gamefaqs so far, so it might just be a rumour or something I have no idea. Some of the reports did seem credible though.

Any data on this guy would be appreciated. I'm trying to get a handle on how this stuff works, learning the routines and spawn locations etc so I can play without going too crazy.

Can't people die in the overworld without the player character being nearby, i.e. the Dark Elf Fladrus (can supposedly be found dead on the road)? Is the overworld (i.e. SKYRIM when you save) considered one cell?

No its multiple cells, if you travel fast enough you can actually get the game to pause as it loads the next cell. This was easily done in oblivion when they had fortify speed magic.
