Question about uploading a mod with created static items

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:10 am

My mod contains a whole bunch of items (eg food/alchemical ingredients) that I have made static. My question is this - can I just upload my mod to Nexus as is, or do I have to do some sort of special packaging thing in the same vein as packing modders resource items that are also in the mod?

Thanks in advance

Yea everything the mod needs must be included, and filed properly to. So a RAR file with your ESP, a textures folder, meshes folder, etc etc. you get the idea :)

Thanks for the quick reply!
Maybe I wasn't 100% clear though (either that or I'm misunderstanding you), with my own static items, all I have done is created a new static item (eg bread) using the existing ingame model. Nothing else was changed, so if I have to find some way to add my static bread into my mod other than zipping the mod in the regular fashion then I don't know where to start!

It should be ok if you've used the vanilla model. I can't be 100% sure that the ESP will look at the BSA files or will want loose files.

So if you just duplicate a static in game, and rename to your own, it should ok.

Thanks again, I suppose once it's uploaded we shall find out if it works as is :)

If you just change an existing models type (Potion01 from Food to Static), then you don't need to upload anything special. Only if you use non-vanilla resources.

I agree with SomeWelshGuy, if all you did was create a new static object (in the object Window), and point it to a Vanilla model (by unpacking it and placing it in the corresponding folder you found it in) then you don't need to include it. Only if you changed the path (which I don't recommend for Vanilla resources), or if you altered the model/texture in some way.. for instance, I remove the visible geometry of a column I use for a mannequin pedestal - I have to upload that "new" model, but the Vanilla one I use which that invisi-pedestal replaces by User-option in-game doesn't have to be.

Also, if you changed the collision layer-type in the model from animStatic to just static (to prevent havok movement), you'd need to upload it.
