Question about using low level gear.

Post » Fri Jul 27, 2012 7:02 pm

I am playing a 2H warrior, and I want to use only fur and iron armor in combination. Fur armor, and iron everything else. I'll probably use some ancient nord armor too.

Anyway, I am letting myself use whatever weapon I want, but I cannot improve it. I can however, improve the armor. I can't get fur or iron up to legendary, right?

When I can smith it, I will make myself some dragon plate armor, though I won't improve it.

Would I be fine on expert, or should I throw it to adept? Anyone else ever try sticking to low level gear?

I have played 60 hours of not wearing armor and just wearing robes and using a bow... Or was that 120 hours? I forgot. I prefer the low level stuff. It suits most of my characters. I have only recently decided to bump the difficulty up to apprentice, so can't say what you should go to.

Yes you can make fur legendary, Im not sure what level smithing it required though or what % modifier

Archers will be your main worry for sure. But positioning and shouts can sort that out.

Low leveled gear seems to suit the atmosphere of Skyrim more in my opinion, and something you'd see an adventure wear. But like Klawed Flaw said, some people don't use armor, either use robes, normal clothing, or sometimes naked. I suggest you stick with Adept difficulty though.

Well, somewhere buried in my saves I had a character who wore the chef's clothes and didn't use armor spells. I got beat around a lot, but if you can handle using some strategy I you could totally go for expert, adept wasn't too tough though.

I use the lower level gear I just use what suits my character build. I improve the low lever gear but I do not improve higher level gear so I can actually have some damage done to me. Its perfectly viable on either expert or adept.

Thanks guys. I wanted to make a sort of Conan The Barbarian inspired warrior. A brutal savage who wears furs and carries a huge sword. Good to know that I can do it. The only downside is having to perk heavy and light armor.

My Hunter/explorer wears fur only, she is lvl 35 ( so not real high yet ). She does get owned by archers at times, but it's real fun to play her. She does have nice fortify armor and health enchants.

What is your chief damage type?

I had a stormcloak ranger who wore fur. I did good in falkreath raiding imperial camps and patrols.including thalmor.
