Question on daggers

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:18 pm

I'm thinking of starting a new character that duel wields daggers, but the information I find on daggers shows that there is no added benefit from perks on daggers (armsman or bladesman). So I'm wonderining what the advantage/disadvantage is on daggers, why would I choose daggers and not duel swords instead? To me it seems there must be some advantage to daggers to why you would choose them over say swords, but all I can find is some information on daggers having an impact on sneak attacks. For me I would use mainly a bow for sneak attacks and would like my duel wield weapon mainly for combat, so then should I choose swords or maybe axes? On a side note with duel wield, have they fixed the favorite menu to accommodate duel weapons. Because I have used duel before and it seemed it was hard to switch between duel weapons since the weapon only appears once?!

Here it says Bladesmen DOES affect daggers, on one-handed page it says the perk doesn't. Is there any confirmation as to which one-handed (or dual-wielding) perks affect Daggers? Does the skill level change dagger damage at all, like it would for swords, etc?--http://www.uesp.net/wiki/User:Alphaman?http://www.uesp.net/wiki/User_talk:Alphaman? 23:59, 15 November 2011 (UTC) I've tested it in game and have found that Bladesman perk indeed does not seemingly affect daggers. I compared it using Valdr's Lucky Dagger with its innate 25% chance for critical hits, which like the Archery critical attack (and likely the one-handed swords as well), reveals a message notifying me of my critical attack. Using the Bladesmans perk with a dagger, I wasn't notified at all after a minute or so of experimenting on my companion. Therefore, I removed the mention on the main page unless someone wants to further test this to make sure. On a somewhat unrelated note, from what I've heard, it seems any enchantments boosting one-handed attacks don't actually count towards daggers. "On a somewhat unrelated note, from what I've heard, it seems any enchantments boosting one-handed attacks don't actually count towards daggers." This is true, whether or not I wear my fortify onehanded gear has no impact on the damage the dagger claims to do http://www.uesp.net/wiki/User:Vaag256 14:47, 24 November 2011 (UTC) http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim_talk:Weapons

then for my use maybe duel swords? I wanted to RP daggers though...

Or maybe it makes sense to main hand a dagger say mehrunes and off hand a sword?

Daggers can be used for combat because they have a high DPS, but I feel they're extremely weak.

Sure, off-handing a sword with that dagger is extremely viable.

thanks, I was intending to use mehrunes on this character to make use of the daedric item or was hoping to use mehrunes. I'm thinking of off-handing an axe then.

The speed of dual-wielding attacks is based on your offhand weapon, so it might be better to have sword in the right and dagger in the left hand.

The one-handed skill doesn't affect daggers, but the Armsman perk does.

Where daggers really shine is stealth attacks, with perks in sneak that greatly boost damage capability.

It's also worth noting that daggers also greatly benefit from the dual-wielding perks in one-handed. I think they're even able to synergize well with the stealth damage perks.

There's a dagger that you could combine with that, called Valdr's Lucky Dagger that has a boost to your chance to land critical strikes. I once tried that on my first character with maxed out Armsman perk, and the results were quite nice with Mehrunes Razor in my right and that in my left. I rather enjoyed rushing at things and landing power attacks everywhere.

cool, I'll look up how to get that dagger. I've never seen it.

Bladesman has a small effect, and daggers are affected by Dual Savagery and Savage Strike. Those will stack.

I believe daggers are affected by most one-handed perks, but their real benefit lays in sneak attacks.

ok thanks. I have a better idea now that maybe dual daggers is plausible.

AFAIK, daggers aren't affected by the fortify one-handed magical effect, and they aren't affected by the Bladesman perk (naturally since it says in the description it only works on swords). However, they are affected by your overall one-handed skill level. I can't check it right now for the exact numbers, but a dagger has a damage rating very close to a sword when smithed up. It also attacks faster, and it gets a better sneak bonus.

So a dagger can actually be better than a sword if you are not using the fortify one handed effect, and you aren't using the Bladesman perks.

Yes, very. I would not go the Bladesman. IMO, ANY of the specialty perks for 1H or 2H is not worth the cost for the reward. Spend those three perks somewhere else.

I've read several threads by players who dual-wield daggers, but you have to use it with the sneak skill/perks to get the real damage amplifiers. If you're dual-wield a dagger and sword, I think the dagger goes in the left hand, sword in the right (if I remember correctly). I think it's because the fastest weapon - dagger in this case - goes in left hand.

Good luck.

Sorry, I have been up for a while and may have posted confusing statements. Ah, the perils of aging...

I am on the console. I have recently tested the dagger damage with the 1H tree, due to conflicting info. It was with a new char before leaving Helgen. I took my 1H to 80 before leaving the cave. The skill increase, increases the base damage. With the perks banked, I saved and selected the perks one at a time and noted the damage done to his health bar. The base damage increased with Armsman 5/5. The power attack damage increased with Savage Strike. It increased further with Dual Savagery.
