You know you can PM him directly right?

IMO the attacks are a feature that didn't work out like they intended, as I'm sure they didn't intend that towns be decimated by the attacks.

Many many threads about it already so you are not the only one with the problem.

I started DG recently (on the PC) and have just never entered a city at night and always QT to a nearby location so I don't 'pop' in at night, and I haven't had any attacks yet.

Lol i am doing exactly the same thing staying out of town during night but last two attacks were during day one in riverwood killed almost everybody sice i am high level and it take almost one hit for vampires to kill towns npc and 2nd attack was in Riften also during day were some npc were killed as well. So i was just wonder is that a glitch.
But thanks man for replay

To throw in my two pennies, until I've finished DG either way, I keep to daylight hours. Thus my attacks are very infrequent; going up against a master vamp at level 10 was a bit harrowing though!

Arrrgh tell me more!

I only just found out this morning that random werewolves attack in this game (at night?) .. and i spent 2-3 hours in total today running around in the pitch dark woods/forests (Climates of Tamriel mod) before finding out this information, scared me thinking i could of bumped into a werewolf not knowing they're "wild" ones.. think i'd of had a heart attack,

I haven't seen a werewolf yet and I've played considerably since getting DG, it seems pretty rare. The vamp attacks...? Reports vary, it sounds like it bugs out nastily for some people, although it sounds to me like your ok. Right, I'll put this bit in tags...

Spoiler
One of the things about DG is that vampires occasionally bust into town and start wailing on the townsfolk. This CAN happen during daylight hours, but I've had a total of four or 5 and only one of those was during the day. Like I said, it bugs out for some in that these attacks happen very very frequently. Most people experience them as a once in a while kind of thing though.

Hope that helps!

Consider yourselves lucky, I lost Adrianne in Whiterun in one game, as well as Amren, and I was nowhere near Whiterun, just got inheritance letters from couriers while travelling. In another game I lost Balimund on my way to bring him his salts.

I have to say, though, I definitely DO NOT see this as a "pain", "glitch", or even, as some people have said, "stupid". People die, people die all of the time. Why shouldn't your character feel that pain? That loss? I know that, for me, it actually makes the game more real, more personal. For example, with Balimund... the character in question barely knew him. They'd talk and barter, and she agreed to find some fire salts for him. Then she became involved with the Dawnguard, forgot about Balimund and his forge and the salts... But on the way back from a mission, she decided she'd stop in Riften and sell off some goods... which made her remember the fire salts... she'd gathered 10, so she's on her way to give them to Balimund and he's being felled by a vampire... CLASSIC. Sad, sure, but a classic Skyrim moment nonetheless.

Gstaff in another thread said that this is an intended feature and that they stop once you complete the MQ.

It's not JUST the outright attacks that happen-

Has anyone run across "The Mysterious Stranger" yet?

He's a fully robed/cloaked figure who walks around night/sometimes day.

He's a vampire who stalks the townspeople/kills them. You HAVE to kill him on sight. BTW- watch out at Whiterun and Winterhold for him.

Yes i had he was the one who killed a light armor trainer in Riften during day.

I do agree with you that it makes game more real but what svcks is that in some towns there are no NPC left just a ghost town maybe if towns would have bigger population or we would get new NPC it would not be so hard to take.

I always fast travel to the stables anyway, and only to cities, for immersion reasons. So I have had one vampire attack in 20+ levels of playing. Not too bad.

Break out the http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21615?ses_res=951975b3642089a0f802be06eebb5242 it only stops the town attacks, not attacks on you in the wild.

When will people understand that vampire attacks is a feature, not a bug/glitch? -.-

It's a simple motivation added by the DLC for players to fight against them > join the Dawnguard, or with them > join the vamps > become a Vampire Lord.

I mean... How would you fight vamps if they would never pop up and scare the innocent population? It wouldn't be a logic scenario to join a group of vamps hunters if there aren't vamps attacking at all would it?

At first I saw this as a terrible thing. I started thinking, crap I'm not downloading DG until I have everything done. But yaknow what... it is a feature. It is a feature that makes me feel like a hero or failure. I must rescue the people of skyrim. I must be their DRAGONBORN! :) Sorry, got epic there for a sec...

It would be a much better feature if Bethesda had kept the idea they had before Skyrim came out that when store clerks and such are killed that they are replaced. Granted some actually do this, but most do not. If the cities in Skyrim actually had hundreds of people in them, with many vendors of each type, again this wouldn't be a problem. But what we have are very limited people in these cities offering very limited stores that are not replaced when they die.

I have lost a the smith in Riverwood before to dragons, even the bard. No great loss there (though I would have liked to have seen his daughter take over like she said she was training to do). The attacks inside cities killing what few merchants we have ... that are not replaced, just doesn't work.

The vampires make attacks outside the cities, that would have been enough motivation. I played it on the Xbox and I'm now on the PC re-creating my main 2 characters, one I sided with the vampires beeing a vampire already - no problems. The other would have helped the vampires just to cause disaster, but not become a vampire, since Beth. has been so restrictive in how they force you to play the Dawngaurd quest, my second character couldn't play it so the vampire attacks continued.

So I will not bother with Dawngaurd on the PC until I'm happy with the mods out there that change this bug/feature!

You didn't really need to ask Gstaff about this since members can easily answer your question.

I've been fotunate enough to drop the Vampire groups before they slaughter any towns folk. I think I only lost a couple guards, but that's ok, they're expendable. I do come across alot of Mysterious Travelers though. I saw this dude in a hood creeping around Whiterun. I orginally though he was out doing some late-night window peaking so I went up to him and was all like "what the fudge are doing". He started squealing like a wildman and summoning a bunch of Gargoyles. It was nasty business.

Well it could be a bug, or it could be intended, like the Serana nerfing drain life... so I'm not sure. I don't seem to get them anyway, probably due to Open Cities.

"No, that's something that can happen now with Dawnguard. Have you finished the main questline... that should make the attacks stop."

I only got two attacks, and only the town beggar died.

I was literally waiting at night for them to appear, but they never did, so they are hardly frequent...
