question to laptop gamers

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:42 pm

Hi i have this question.
I have seen that many people mentioned modified nvidia drivers or laptops.
I have a gateway 6831fx and it has a 8800m gts gpu
i'm going to reinstall the os(vista32) and was wondering if i should use the Official nvidia drivers or gateway's
NVIDIA has drivers for the 8800m gts but i'm wondering why do poeple use modified drivers from laptop2videoGO? if the official ones can be installed.
is there any particular reason?
thanks for your time

I'd suggest you post your question on notebookreview forum for your specific laptop. The members go through a great deal of effort to post the most updated drivers for each model, usually even before the updates are made on the manufacturer website.

I'd post either here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/

or here

The larger laptop builders (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc) make changes to the motherboard chipsets, audio and graphics components for reasons of there own. That's why you usually have to go with drivers from the individual builders. It shouldn't hurt to try the nVidia driver on your system though. If it's incompatible, it should simply fail the install. Note that I said "should" .

No that's pretty sound. If the driver isn't going to work, you'll know. I would suggest using the website of the maker though.
