Question on the Stormcloaks? Spoilers!

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:39 pm

I was just watching the G4TV footage the version that has been narrated by 'you tube' user Culvey House. In it, it shows Windhelm as a dark and oppressive city, "foreboding" is how it’s described in the vid. Now seeing as its meant to be the stronghold of the Storm cloaks, I was wondering if any one else has thought that maybe the Rebellion isn't all it's scratched up to be and is the evil protagonist in the story? I would much rather this then another Star Wars esque help the good rebellion story line. By the way I love Star Wars and im not dissing it by any means. :D

If one side is "good" and the other is "bad", I'm going to be let down. I want them both to be gray.

As long as I get a choice as to who I can side with, I'm happy. So far (From Lord of souls and infernal city) the empire has left me unimpressed. We'll see how that pans out.

TES has usually done a good job of presenting main factions as morally ambiguous. I saw the city of Windhelm from the video, and I think that those descriptions based only off what we've seen so far are a little presumptive. We really don't know all that much right now, so we're going to have to wait two weeks to find out.

Tiber Septim was a scumbag so it's just as well.

I don't think one is bad or the other. I like to think they just have a disagreement in which is right and better about how to keep Nirn from being destroyed hopefully.

Where are people getting that Windhelm is the Stormcloaks HQ?
Stormcloaks HQ is in Solitude, Empire is in Windhelm.

The map from Bethesda and the achievements for Skyrim are the source of the "Windhelm = Stormcloak HQ" thing.

I'd like it to be order v. chaos, with the ability to choose whether you wanted to use mostly good options in your missions or evil options to further your factions ends. That would be the dream setup for the Stormcloak-Imperial conflict to me.

I don't much like the one-sidedness I've observed so far from the leaked videos.

I don't much like it either. It would seem very strange to follow the Imperial soldier to escape rather than the SC soldier. Now I am sure this is not where the choice of which faction to help happens, but it definitely leaves behind a bad taste for the Empire. Hoping more missions in the main story will show the Empire in a bit better lighting, and maybe unfold more sinister motives for the SCs; something to balance out the atmosphere after the beginning plays out...

Bull! The Septims were the greatest line of emperors Tamriel has ever seen! The Medes are no true Dragon Borns and so are no true emperors. They are just opportunists.

I'm pretty sure Zurin Arctus wasn't happy with Tiber Septim. Apparently Tiber betrayed his somehow, IIRC.

Spoiler
The Empire is clearly desperate but I am unsympathetic to what I've seen. The talk of the execution event in Solitude and the intro of the game made me stop planning to support the Empire in my game. If the Stormcloaks are just as bad, it will be hard to choose sides.

I hope we end up having plenty of interaction and opinion forming opportunities, by running into a fair amount of both "good" and "bad" people on each side of the conflict.

Yea its a little disappointing for me that the Stormcloaks are shown as the good guys. Just look at the leaked footage! Would you side with the guys that were going to stand with you and die with you, or side with the guys that were going to kill you?

I just wanted it to be a gray area decision between them, unlike in Fallout New Vegas NCR/Legion = Good/Bad.

The only person who wanted to kill you was that Imperial Captain. The guy reading the list of names genuinely felt bad and the other soldiers were only doing their jobs. Don't forget what that thief said too. Skyrim was peaceful and stable before the Stormcloaks killed the King. You and he wouldn't even have been in this situation had they not incited civil war. I'm sure if the person playing that went with the Imperial side, you'd have seen them in a completely different light.

I suppose your right... but the legion is still the general faction that was going to end my life, and I'm not the forgiving type. And the civil war didn't affect me at all until the legion captain [censored] decided to separate me from my head.

Yeah, can't deny that. Especially since I'm going to be playing an Imperial. I really wonder how they would have reacted to that.

I'm not so sure if Talos worshipers would have called it "peaceful" judging from what we know of the game so far.

I believe the Legion is in Windhelm and Solitude is the Rebels. Kinda makes sense according to geography since Solitude is in the NW and Windhelm is E.

No, Stormcloaks are in Windhelm since the commander killed the High King there an crowned himself, plus, he is the Jarl of Windhelm. The Imperials are in Solitude.
