Questions about classes and tree progression

Post » Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:31 pm

I have been reading about the game for a while, and reading posts here even though I haven't posted myself. Anyway, I had a few questions and thoughts.

1. It seems like the 4 'classes' are as much about playstyle as they are about traditional 'roles' (healing, dps, tanking, etc), given that a 'templar' could specialize in light armor and restoration staff, and a dragon knight could use a destruction staff and be a firemage, etc.

2. How exclusive are the class trees? Will high level players eventually have all skills in all trees, and just decide which ones to use in their current setup, or will it be like other games where you have to specialize to some extent in one tree in lieu of another, and if you go high in one tree you cant go as high in the others?

3. I have read that players will be able to switch weapons and quickbars pretty quickly. Does that mean that with enough use of each weapon/skill, players will be able to do many things well and its just a choice of which weapons/skills to use currently... or does it mean that doing many things necessarily means that you can never be as good in that skill as someone who focuses on a few skills?

Thanks in advance for any help!

1. That sounds about right from what we know so far. in practice though? no idea

2. The Class tree are exclusive to them and only them. The DK is the only one with the DK skill tree for example. from what is known, everyone can get all the other skill trees and complete them after a long time in playing that single character.

3. Again, as far as we know, you can have 2 weapons sets equipped and switch between them. each weapon set also has its own 5 or 6 skills (not sure if ultimate skill stays the same) that you can have equipped. For example, lets say you create a Spellsword and the weapons sets are a sword and shield for one and a destruction staff on another. The skill set on the staff can be ranged base ones used for when you are at long range, when you get close you can then switch to the S&B which might change your hotbar set up to a tank/DPS layout.

So that means in the short run, players that specialize in a skill will be better at it than players that don't, but in the long run, lots of people will have maxxed out skills (not just their main skill), so its more an issue of what weapon they have equipped and what skills they have quickslotted?

Aren't there exclusive, racial skill trees too? or at least skills.

There are some racial abilities like in the other games, correct

The ebonheart pact races are the only ones known though. they are here with the nightblade skills
