Questions about a few DG items...

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 2:29 pm

1. Do alchemist merchants in Tamriel sell ancestor moth wings, too, or can they only be obtained by killing moths in the Ancestor Glade? (I'm trying to keep my wings plucked stat at 0).
2. Is vampire lord armor only available to players who become vampire lords, or is it obtainable/lootable through other means, too? (I have all the other vampire armors, but I suspect this one is beyond my reach).
3. Are the soul husk extract potions in the boneyard the only place they can be obtained, or can they be made by the player or bought from merchants? Also, do they respawn? (I don't have them, didn't see them, but may have sold them).

Thanks.

"Yes" to three of your questions. The moth wings are part of a questline, and the soul husks are used as a form of payment inside the soul cairn. VL armor can only be used if your a VL.

Hope that helps, Good Luck.

Thanks, but a couple of quick clarifications:

Re: the moth wings - there are moths that you can actually kill/harvest to obtain the ingredient, "ancestor moth wings" - the moth swarms are part of a quest (Unseen Visions), but the ancestor moth wings are not (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ancestor_Moth_Wing)
Re: the soul husk extract - I'm not referring to soul husks, which I used to purchase stuff from Morven Stroud, I'm referring to the potion, "Soul Husk Extract," four of which are purported to be in the Boneyard (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Soul_Husk_Extract#Soul_Husk_Extract)

Valerica can provide you with soul husk extract. I think I remember getting it from her once. More of a collector's item than anything useful. And I'm afraid you may have to pluck a couple of wings. :( My bunnies slaughtered stat accidently got incremented when the poor thing ended up too close to a melee. Oh well.

Wait, there's a "wings plucked" stat?

EDIT: I'll be darned. Can't believe I hadn't noticed that 'til now. Great, one more thing for me to obsess over.

Updates:
1. No sign of any ancestor moth wings - or any of the new ingredients - in any merchant's stock. Now, I only went to each one once, but for none of them to have anything (there are 6 alchemy merchants I went to), I assume the new ingredients weren't added to their inventories. And, BTW, I did go back to the glade just to confirm that they can be plucked. Sure enough, every now and then a moth in one of the swarms has the option to catch it, which removes it's wings and adds to the dreaded "wings plucked" stat (only slightly less frustrating than the "bunnies slaughtered" stat).
2. Okay, so no vampire lord armor for me or anyone who doesn't side with Harkon.
3. Ooops... had the soul husk extract potions (4) stored in a chest. Sorry. Don't know if they respawn in the Boneyard, but I'm willing to bet they aren't sold by any of the regular merchants!

Thanks.

Why do you have to be a vampire Lord to use the Vampire Lord Armor? I admit neither my vampire character nor my Dawnguard character ever tried it, seemed pretty useless to me. But I will go send my Dawnguard character off to check her wardrobe later.

Edit - The Vampire Royal Armor can be worn, sorry never thought anyone would ask about what the fanged monster wears, not even a Vampire Lord can change that.

But that doesn't answer your question, and now you're making me wonder if it didn't answer mine either. Is the Vampire Lord Armor available if you play on the Dawnguard's side? I assumed from NJ6fan's answer that you could only get it if you played through on the side of the vampires (like, when you become a vampire lord?). Were you able to find it playing through as a Dawnguard?

Thanks.

Yep, Harkon drops one, and there's a respawning set found in the back half of Castle Volikhar (the final room before you reach Valerica's study where the Gargoyles pop out all over the place).

Edit:#1 My mistake. I've confused Vampire Lord Armor for Vampire Royal Armor.

Edit #2: What exactly is "Vampire Lord Armor?" The UESP identifies it as something separate from "Vampire Royal Armor" but I don't see any pictures of it. I was looking http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Vampire_Lord_Armor#Vampire_Lord_Armor.

But that is the Vampire Royal Armor, not what you wear in Vampire Lord form.

Wait - I think you're referring to the Vampire Royal Armor - I obtained two of those exactly how and where you said. But the UESP lists a Vampire Lord Armor which I'm assuming is a different item altoget5her, since it has different ID codes - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Specialty_Gear#Vampire_Equipment

I don't know if that's what aussie500's referencing, too, but I'm asking about Vampire Lord Armor's availablility if you side with the Dawnguard. Now I'm also curious: if anyone has gotten it (as a vampire), when do they get it?

Thanks.

Edit: ...and aussie500 answered (part of) it...

You do not get it though, it just comes with the Vampire Lord form, same as fur comes with the werewolf form. You cannot access it or change it even if you are a Vampire Lord. The PC players can play around with it, but console players cannot. You can only wear it on the consoles if you are a Vampire Lord. And in that form that is all you can wear. The player version does not come with the cape Harkon's version has.

Okay so it's not really "armor" per se. It's just the physical form of a VL?

Yes. But the PC players can use console commands and mods to play dress up with unavailable items.

Vampire lord Armor can only be obtained through console. It has no world model, and is useless other than adding enchantments to your character. I think you mean Vampire Royal Armor, in which case can be worn by any character. It is found in the Volkihar ruins in the room just before Valericas laboratory with the gargoyles and the hidden door leading the laboratory. It is on a shelf.

Tested this out: while she's in the Boneyard, Valerica can make you a Soul Husk Extract potion if you bring her 5 soul husks. But, interestingly enough, if you tell her Harkon's dead, she will leave the Boneyard and move back into Castle Volkihar (in the room with the entry to the Soul Cairn) - in the Castle, she doesn't provide the option to produce Soul Husk Extract potions anymore. Don't know if this is by design, a bug, or just a glitch in my game, but there you have it.
