Questions questions from a *newbie*

Post » Tue Dec 11, 2012 11:20 am

I am new to the whole world of Skyrim...I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls, Oblivion, etc,,,until now...LOL...I was always a AC girl & my brother told me if I loved that game so much I would love Skyrim....so on a chance I went & rented it & here we r 2 weeks later, & I am a proud addict!! I do have some questions tho would help me in my gameplay & for me to understand the game better to...So I'm going to try & remember all the things I wanted to ask & go from there!

#1- Besides making armor & weapons to sell, how else can you build up your gold ? I feel like I'm a poor warrior! I read that some ppl go back into the caves & such that were cleared out & took their companion & loaded them up on stuff as well as what you could carry...I pick up as much as I can but I have to leave room for what I need but selling stuff & picking up gold really hasnt given me alot....(I'm on level 18)

#2 Is there ever TO MANY missions ? Right now with my regular & misc missions I have 27 tallied up & I'm not sure if thats right, or to many or not enough !! LOL My brother told me take on every mission you can bc u have all the time in the world..Some missions I do half way & then go on to something else which I might finish or leads to yet ANOTHER mission! LOL....some i have to only half finish & go back to bc after dying 8,9,10 times I'm like ok obviously I'm not ready yet to beat this...Is this a typical experience in the game ?

#3 Companions...I know some ppl use em & some dont...honestly i love having a companion & if they die i reload so I can keep em alive....as I said before im a poor warrior so i dont have 500 coins to keep hiring companions & after losing lydia & my second companion I have a hard time finding a new one so the one I have now (well DID) is the guy Bastrada (?) something like that...anyways do companions hired time eventually run out or do they stay with u as long as u keep them alive etc ? I finally became a werewolf yesterday & when I went off on the mission with Aela to kill the werewolf hunters & came back he was no longer my companion & i went looking for him & he was back at the inn where i originally found him & in order to get him back i have to rehire him...so i was like what happened ? does becoming a werewolf mean u lose your companion ?? :ermm:

#4 Dragons taking off ? I have had this happen twice to me so far...I have beat probaly 5-6 dragons so far & in 2 situations I was in a combat alongside my companion fighting a dragon & then all of a sudden it took off...i would look up & around & around & its gone & it no longer showed up under my compass....i was like O K did we just scare it off ?

#5 I havent had a chance yet to be a werewolf other then that first initial change when i did the blood ritual....how does being a werewolf really help ? do u automatically change at night ?

#6 Carrying 2 weapons...i dont know if i have to level up a skill in the game or level up a perk but as of right now i cannot have 1 weapon in each hand to fight...i can have any of these combos: magic in each hand (2 different spells) or magic in one & a shield in the other or just my sword...is it just the small weapons like daggers u can have in both hands ? i have tried & tried but those r the only combos so far i have been able to equip...

#7 The different "groups"...obviously i joined the companions bc i wanted to be a werewolf & bc its a "neutral" group meaning i can travel place to place & usually have no troubles unless its with a enemy that would have a problem with you regardless....i tried to join the imperial legion bc it was a mission but then when i went to other cities to do missions ppl who usually were cordial to me started attacking me! so reload it was back to before that oath moment! so its made me iffy to join anything else...so far i have the dark brotherhood mission in my queue & the stormcloak rebellion & the imperial legion & the theives guild...im not sure if im SUPPOSED to join any, or join a cpl, a few or even NONE! im just afraid that bc of the legion experience i had that now my daily dealings around the city will be harder bc their going to disagree with that "side"....what r the pros/cons to these groups ? r they just part of the storyline so i have to join them, if at all temporarily? also when i joined the legion it said i failed at the stormcloak rebellion which changed once i reloaded...so will i fail at the joining the legion if i do the stormcloak rebellion? what does failing do as far as gameplay? does it even matter?

Well thats all I can remember for now...any help would be appreciated !! Thanks all for your patience with my many questions! I'm sure there will be more as I level/play along !  :bunny:

You've got a lot of questions! I would suggest going to http://www.uesp.net to look up anything you're curious about, since it's a fairly complete guide. Also, there are some good iPhone apps that can give you tricks and tips on playing the game. Or I guess you could always spend the coin and buy the official game guide!

Sorry to give such a general answer, but when you've got so much to learn, it's best to find those resources that are already written and are waiting for you to use them. Happy adventuring!

I suggest doing one quest/mission at a time. Easier to keep track of things that you've already done obviously

You cannot equip 2 two-handed weapons at the same time. You can only dual wield one-handed weapons. For example 1. Iron Sword + Iron dagger 2. Iron War axe + Iron mace.

And probably the best way to make money early on is by doing quests.
