Quests in ESO

Post » Sun Nov 11, 2012 1:53 pm

Hello everybody,

In the recent video I heard the devs say that their quests are found through exploration and that you have to walk around to find certain 'points of interest'. However, in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLp0ykvotEI I found on Youtube, the guy states that the questing is very similar to WoW Mists of Pandaria...

What are your thoughts on this?

My interpretation is it means that quests can be picked up in the same way you pick up quests in WoW - hit a quest hub and take a quest.

Never played MoP but this is almost like most MMORPGs, linear story, you go from guy to guy and from zone to another, and you end up somewhere where all max leveld guys are, somekind of city probably, but zones are alot larger than in normal MMORPG games, yeah, you need to go to explore to find more quest, btw, very first dungeon is only found by exploring the area, no-one tells you where its, player find it out of sudden while he wander around the zone.

Btw, that guy in the video is obvious troll. I wouldnt click any of those links, hes probably haxor.

they've told us they are staying away from quest hubs. and will be introducing quests to us in a more natural way. no quests hubs = win.

Aye, but they didnt remove them entirely, linear story svcks. Why not to add different stories everywhere around the world instead. Story continues from lvl 1 to max level, and probably endgame too and hell expansions as well.

there is a main story sure. and it will be linear. not unlike ES games. im fairly certain there will be other quests in the game. some of them story lines.

Can't see how you can avoid quest hubs if we are just calling "quest hubs" places where npcs are around that can give quests :unsure2:

No I think it won't be at all liner. There will be hubs, however, those hubs are jumping points rather then a central quest location. So you will get a quest at said hub which will lead you towards an area in which other options are available. So you might get a standard sort of go kill X spider’s type of quest. However, on the way or as part of the general quest itself multiple other branching options will emerge.

Also, the guy on the video is Jesse Cox a highly respected video game blogger, voice, not sure what the proper title would be, however, I highly doubt he is trolling. If he said he played an Alpha version I would it be a pretty safe bet he played an Alpha version.

Why we need to talk about someone? When I started to play Skyrim, I didnt talk to anyone I just started to explore, no I didnt follow that dude to the town, I went and killed stuff and explored dungeons. ESO doesnt give us so much freedom like Skyrim does, not even close. I actualy did main quest quite late, wish I had those shouts before, in this game you must follow the main story.

Because I know and I read about the game.

Only MMO/online games what gives samekind of freedom like SKyrim does is Darkfall.

Even Skyrim has some quests you needed to do to proceed on the story or advance in the side storyline. I guess at this point I don’t have any reason to think that the open world aspect which has made Elder Scrolls as popular as it is would be something that they totally abandon in ESO. All evidence seems to suggest that ESO is intended to be a very open world (save the odd thing about not being able to go into the territory of the competing factions.)

I guess I would need to know where you are reading about the game. At this point I've not read anything that appears to support what you are saying.

See a Quest Marker
Take the Quest
Finish Quest

Well there'll be quests, and someone or something somewhere to give them. So places where a quest or quests are. They're just trying to get across that quests have a dynamic and natural feel to them, rather than you going from one person with a symbol above head to another person with a symbol above head. But regardless, we will still pick quests up.

Btw, quests found by explorating arent even NPCs, they are stuff like scroll etc. You kill some monsters and spam new quest.

Fair enough, out of the "so many articles" you have read at least one someplace somewhere, that you can't remember, someone said there would be quest hubs. Never mind that like three posts up is an acual link to an acual source saying their won't be quest hubs.

we might have different definitions of quest hubs. a quest hub is somewhere you go pick up 10 quests go do them and come back and turn them in. then you get another quest to go to the next quest hub. just cause a person has a quest doenst mean it's a quest hub. it's just a person with a quest. at least that's how i see it.

I think that the heart of it. On one hand, clearly their are going to be quest gvers. I think when they talk about quest hubs they mean the famous WOW Christmas tree effect, in which one area lights up because that area is stuffed with a dozen quest givers. I think ESO is aiming to avoid that.

Things like the Mages Guild and Fighters Guild are going to be quest hubs, under that definition. They just want to emphasise that many quests will be found all over the place, and feel more part of the world than just going to a town and running through a list of npcs for your quests.
