Will killing the guy in a pistol duel for pendelton on the masquerade mission affect the non-lethal achievement?

It counts. I killed him and the screen after I finished the quest said "Hostiles Killed: 1". The "No Kills" box wasn't checked. He was the only one I killed.

Thanks :)

To bad really. Im a completionist so having to avoid side quests for the achivement really bothers me but oh well.

Switching for crossbow with sleep dart while counting and firing first - works fine for me (at least for the mission stats - yet to complete the game). The guards, though talking as he was killed, react calmly and did not raise the alarm. Just do not make a step from the circle while the duel - this would make everyone hostile.

Yes, just use sleeping darts instead of the gun. I waited in the circle, and as the countdown reached the end I quickly
froze time, switched to sleeping darts, and shot him. One of the guards muttered something about "black magic" but
they acted like the guy was dead, and just left him there. No alarms raised, everyone remained non-hostile.

I sleep darted him and on that same playthrough I got the Clean Hands achievement.

On another note, the duel doesn't count as getting detected, as I was worried it would when I was doing this mission.

Use sleep darts and it still counts. The guards think he is dead and you win.

I wonder if you could kill him with his own bullet with time stop and possession. I never tried that gimmick, but he'd the the first person I'd want to use it on. It would still count as a kill against you though.

Never got around to trying possession. Thought it sounded kind of creepy. And alas, I've returned the game to the rental store.

Yep counts as a kill, also turns the 2 guards hostile.
Stop Time and the guards some somehow got the word out "Witchcraft" before I even got to the possession part.
Over before I even started...lol

Also tried Stop Time, Blink, Choke, Blink back... the guards still see you use the Stop Time power and go hostile as soon as time starts again.
