Quick question regarding the Lore

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:11 pm

Ok, my timeline may be off, but isn't Cyrodiil supposed to be a jungle around this point? I didn't think it became England until the 3'rd era

I just really want to see Cyrodiil the way it was originally conceptualized. A tropical rainforest with Romans running around in it fighting off hostile wildlife sounds amazing.

I think a lot of us would like to see it be a jungle, but I really doubt it. A lot of people don't know that it was ever supposed to be a jungle, the retcon of a retcon would just be too much trouble.

Well it wouldn't really be the retcon of a retcon cause its stated pretty clearly in Oblivion that it was a jungle until the gift of Talos.

According to current established canon it should still be a jungle

Ah well though, whatever. Not a huge deal but its such a good setting that its a shame they're never going to take advantage of it

They said in a recent interview that they have gone to great lengths to make Cyrodiil in TESO as close to Cryrodiil in Oblivion as they can, even going as far at the have points of interest from oblivion be in basically in the same place in TESO, and since they have Bethesda backing them on this project and Bethesda Lore Masters telling them if its ok lore wise or not then im sure everything is just fine when it comes to lore.

Well, apparently, the CHIM Talos used to get rid of the jungle, works retroactively as well, so it not only changes the present and the future but also the past. So it makes it so that Cyrodiil was NEVER a jungle in the first place. It's basically a fun lore-based way to ret-con stuff, haha.

Ohhhhh, I see. I misunderstood, I thought it was from a set point going forward.

Doesn't make much sense in real life but kinda fits the elder scrolls

I don't pretend to be a lore-master, I know my fair share, but that's what I've been reading on this forum from people who seem to know a hell of a lot more than me.

Yes, it was always supposed to be a jungle. However, keep in mind that all Elder Scrolls lore is told from the perspective of someone living in Tamriel, not from the perspective of a dev. There could very well have once been a jungle, but perhaps this was never the case. Perhaps the writer did not know what a jungle was. Perhaps it was always meant to become a temperate forest rather than a tropical one.

Perhaps the word used was rainforest rather than jungle. I live in a rain forest, a temperate rainforest. Its mostly made up of Cedar and Fir trees.

Well as people have mentioned the CHIM powers Talos enacted work retroactively as well as in the present and future.

However the culture of the early empires should be vastly different from the culture of the Septim and Mede Empires. In fact, they should be nothing like Romans. In actuality the Roman influence is completely superficial and I would like to see more of Oblivion's artstyle Imperials than the Blatant generic Romans of the Morrowind and Skyrim Imperials, though any of the above are incorrect anyways. The Imperials, as we know them, did not even exist really until the 3rd Era anyways. These Imperials should be something altogether different from those that came after. However that is a thin hope at this point with the common and misinformed idea that the Imperials are simply Fantasy Romans...
