Quick question on repairing and ammo reloading

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 11:23 pm

I started the game with a 40 repair skill and am able to repair items to 100%. Is this normal in NV or have I installed a mod that has screwed up the repair system?

Similar question: my character is currently lvl 8 and I've been through Good Springs, Primm, Mohave Outpost and Nipton and I still haven't found any ammo reloading recipes, and no reloading recipes show up in my list when I'm at a bench. Should I have found some of these already or have I screwed up my game with mods?

Thanks!

Repair doesn't effect max condition by repair, but how much is repaired per attempt.

Ammo crafting is done at a reloading bench, not a workbench. You won't find any recipes. (Actually, there's maybe one you can find in the whole game not by perk)

I think the repair skill more determines how Much of an improvement you can make to one weapon by repairing it with another - I THINK. Repair skill has a very different effect from what it had in Fo3 regarding weapons - I have found more utility for the Repair skill in using reloading benches and in many, MANY quest skill checks. In fact I see Repair more often in dialogue topics than I do to actually repair weapons.

Your seeing it right, you can repair right up to (near) max with low repair skill.

It's normal. It was changed in response to people insisting it was somehow unfair that you couldn't use a skill at 100% effectiveness until the skill was at 100. Go figure.

Not sure what to tell you about the reloading recipes...I've never played a Guns using character who didn't rush Repair to get the Hand Loader perk, which then gave me a massive list of recipes. I genuinely have no clue how they work without it.

I noticed this too - without Hand Loader, I don't see how it would be possible to get all of the JHP ammo schematics. I have found a Few schematics around the game, but Very, Very few to be frank. Hand Loader seems to be the most efficient way to get good ammo schematics.

Do you have to have the handloader perk to use the reloading benches? Maybe that's my problem. I'm pretty sure I've been at a reloading bench and I have no recipes in my list.

Thanks for clearing up my repair confusion. It seems like repair is so much easier now.

No, so far as I'm aware you don't have to have the perk in order to use the benches- it supposedly only affects the number of recipes you have available. I recall breaking some ammo down to components before getting the perk with my first character, but that's been long enough ago that I don't recall what other recipes I had available at the time.

If there are literally no recipes visible whatsoever when you go to a reloading bench, not even greyed-out ones that you can't use at the time, I'd say there is definitely something wrong.

Okay, I stripped all of my mods and now I have recipes, so I definitely have a jacked up mod somewhere. Thanks for the help, people. Folks on this forum are Johnny on the Spot.

You can't find them, and you can't make them without hand loader. There's only one ammo recipe that can actually be found AFAIK, and it requires hand loading also (I was confused when I was given the schematics for the 44 SWC but it didn't show up in my recipe list).
