I quit my mage ....

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:41 am

So I decided to go back into dungeon plundering cuz i havent done it for close to 42 levels ...

I couldn't hurt anything and i was useing THUNDER BOLTS! ...

and after useing up all my magicka i got killed in 3 hits ...

so i created a bosmer and have decided to do archery and im hoping my 360 can cope with extra data from lost arrows do to no arrow clean up like oblivion had (why did beth forget to code that back into skyrim .-.)

im hoping that the same fate wont happen to this character that happend to my mage

also just a few questions

how do you train sneak ? its currently 40 but i have no idea what i have to do to train it iv'e been walking mostly everywhere in sneak mode some times i get xp some times i dont

You train Sneak by sneaking and not being detected.

Sneak is trained either by trainers or you can use it around enemies. As long as they don't detect you the skill will rise. Once they detect you tho it is useless to be in sneak mode anymore.

It only levels when enemies are near. Best way to increase it is shoot and arrow in the wall and wait till the search eye is back to normal. Or if you consider that cheating (as I do) then just try and sneak past them.

Dont train sneak!!!!lET YOURSELF TO GROW NATURALLY,by exploring dungeons in sneak mode or killing enemies in sneak mode.It is more fun like that because sometime you win and sometimes you dont win:)I PLAYED LIKE THAT THE WHOLE GAME AND I AM STILL HAVING FUN.My sneak is 100 and play on master. If you make sneak sooner-100 in the game you will ruin your pleasure because you will be untouchable.:)

sneak when there are enemies nearby , also be sure you have the right stone active ( thiefstone or loverstone

About your mage , mages play so much different then other sort of characters firstly , don't use the high damage spells with out the the right enchantments they eat your magick pretty fast otherwise , a simple fortify destruction enchantment can lower the cost dramaticlly
second i ve learned that a simple firebolt with the dualcasting and the stagger perk can do more to kill single enemy than a single thunderbolt or incinerate and most important keep moving kite them when ever you can but keep moving or use your unrelenting force to stagger them and give you the time and space to move around

You can get training from several NPCs to boost your sneak skill. I did what you are doing - changed from a Redguard mage to a Bosmer archer. I'm finding a much easier experience with the archer. She rarely dies. Infact, she rarely gets hit with a melee weapon. Jenassa as a follower is part of the reason for this. My mage died quite often until she could summons heavier hitting creatures and could cast ebony flesh and paralyze.

So far my mage character is probably my favorite.

Keep in mind magic does not equal destruction. It's much much more than that. Mages appear to be less powerful than oblivion, but are still extremely powerful in my experience.

Regarding sneak, I found one of best ways to get experience is to have the "eye" go from "searching mode" (partially open) to "Hidden mode". The game seems to like that.

how do you kite an enemy where your in a hall way barely big enough for 3 people to stand side by side and have 5-6 bandits closing in on you

Calm and Fear help a lot in situations like these as do shouts like Unrelenting Force. Also sneaking in dungeons as a mage is a must for me (with help from muffle and later invisibility). That way I can Fury bandits and they will kill each other and they don't even know I am there.

As for sneaking, hiding helps raise it a lot. By that I mean, if someone is searching for you (but you aren't detected yet) do everything in your power to get out of the line of sight. Hiding behind buildings, rocks, walls (always in sneak mode) and then staying still really helps and bumps the sneak skill fast.

lol well i even sneak in with my 2h battleaxe warrior , jut to get close enough or to scout out where the enemies are , sneaking is essential for all character even if you don't but in perks it gives you some time before they see you and react

It sounds like part of your problem may be power-leveling (I'm taking my cue from your description of AFK-sneaking and not going in a dungeon for 42 levels). If you power-level just to power-level, you're going to find that enemies got a lot more powerful between levels, and you won't have experience fighting anything except wolves and the lowest level draugr.

It doesn't have to be near an enemy. I trained a few levels of sneak in one of the inns by going into one of the rentable rooms, squatting in a corner near the door, and fixing the stick on the 360 so I was moving against the wall. If you are moving you can level up near any NPC. I believe that near enemies you don't have to be moving. Never seemed to work for me though. I've always leveled more consistently when moving regardless of the fact I keep reading you don't have to.

I errased my Battle Mage char after LVL 35 even though I had raised the bow to a LVL 72. I wasted alot of points putting them into Destruction and Conjuration. Magicka was way up, and I was playing catch up with stamina etc....... So I just errassed my Dark Elf and started a Khajiit . And then put the game away until they come out with new DLC and started playing Amalur.

Sneak was the first skill that hit 100 without using any trainers and 'grinding', all I did was to explore the world always in sneak mode except settlements (because NPCs give sarcastic comments when you're seen in sneak mode), that way I could always be alerted about presence of possible foes (at least, before my sneak level got very high and the eye indicator sometimes wouldn't change until I literally bump into enemy).

With your archer, you risk quitting him/her quite soon for the opposite reason - it will soon become boring due to being so overpowered. Clearing a whole dungeon without ever getting seen and hit sure is fun, but that fun oesn't last long, and you may find yourself wishing for more challenging playstyle.

Arrows and some dropped armor/weapons are left out of the equation.
