Quote boxes - Is it done or can it be fixed?

Post » Thu May 23, 2013 8:57 pm

My apologies if this post doesn't belong here, as I don't see a "technical forum" listed anywhere.

I've a question (and perhaps, need some advice) when it comes to quote boxes when replying.

As an example, a user posts a "3 point" comment, and I want to reply to point #2. When I remove points #1 and #3, I can't move the cursor outside of the quote box to start my reply. I've tried different options (such as trying to tab out), but I'm either taken completely out of the reply area or the cursor remains stuck.

Can this be fixed? If not, does anyone have any advice on how I can reply to situations like this?

I don't feel comfortable quoting the entire post just to reply to a small segment of it.

For now, I've been using @[username], with "To your point #2", but this seems silly when my reply tends to happen on another page, which means a person would have to go back a page or wing it they remember.

Thanks. :)

In the upper left corner of the reply box you'll find BBCode Mode button. It lets you edit quotes like before. The downside is that you can't use any other buttons like bolding, creating lists or inserting links. You'll have to go back to normal mode to do this, or type all tags manually.

Alternatively, you can write the beginning of your answer before removing unnecessary parts of the quote - you'll be able to continue normally by clicking on what you wrote.

Ah, thanks!

PS: you can do bolding, etc. Just use the BBCode like the quote code. I still use them, regardless of mode (exampled).

I'm old school. BBCode is what I type. :P

I know, that's why I said you can also type it manually.

I always type spoiler tags, bolding and italics, but I use buttons for links and lists. Whatever's faster. :)
