Race Creation: How do I swap one set of eyes for another?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 6:25 pm

I am making a new race, I have based it on the dark elf but I want new eyes, something I simply cannot figure how to do, and a task which the wiki, various guides and google remain silent.

How do I changed the eyes of a new race? I have already changed the skin, attributes and all other things. I just want them to have high elf eyes.

Thankyou for any responses.

Bump, because other people have asked this and it has not been answered in their posts either.

It's a colour setting on the right side of the same dialogue box where you change the face - and everything else - on an NPC.

I don't know if you can make a default for a RACE ... only that you can change the eyes of a particular NPC (whatever their race).

Surely it cannot be true that I should just scrap the Chimer I am working on, copy everything from the Dark Elves over except their eyes to a new race based on High Elves. Race creation becomes beyond useless if my race will only ever have blood red eyes / whatever race's eyes I based it on.

idk if you can set a default eye-colour for a race

I do know that you can change the eye colour of a particular NPC using the NPC creation/edit forms in the CK

Races are used to restrict things ... and MAYBE eye colour is one of them, idk ... when I have used a custom race it was to allow the use of certain magics, weapons or fighting techniques (or restrict their use) by NPC characters of that race.

why dont you create a new Headpart with the eyes you want and set it to your race's formlist for valid headparts

Also, there's the new http://www.creationkit.com/SetEyeTexture_-_Actor. That it doesn't stick in a save might be why Beth needed http://www.creationkit.com/OnPlayerLoadGame_-_Actor.

in the object window create a formlist and name it something like HeadPartsYourRaceName (whatever the name of your race)

leave the formlist edit window open and go to race category in the object window in the CK

find your race and drag it into the formlist. click ok to save

in the headparts category in the objectwindow find the eye(s) of the altmer you want to have and duplicate it (them). dont forget to do both male and female if needed

rename each of these objects (both the editor ID and the Name). in the valid races dropdown, select the formlist you just created. your eyes should now be valid choices in the chargen for that race

just a note, it is probably a very good idea to have you esp dependent on Update.esm if you don't already, as race data has been changed in that master file and you may need to have those updates present in the CK in order for your dark-elf based race to also inherit those changes (stuff like being able to fight on mounted horse etc)
