Race Faction specific Gear

Post » Sun Aug 11, 2013 11:24 am

Like every Lore buff on TES knows, many races have clothing / apparel / armor that is akin to them. The Thalmor don their own apparel... along with guilds having their own specific attire... that generally has bonuses to their profession ( RE: Spartans )

Anyway... now that iv'e broken the ice with a full on nerd joke... lets get into how ESO could implement this in a similar fashion to other MMO's and stay within TES Lore... or the lesser version... " Stay within traditional TES "... which isn't so much about Lore but more what players feel makes TES... TES.

So the MMO Guild Wars 2 has race specific armor and weapons. It is implemented in a similar fashion to how World of Warcraft gives you the option to acquire tokens for participating in PvE / PvP of varying levels... Then trade said tokens in for gear.

To be clear, my intentions for this thread is to get an idea of " how " we could keep Nordic Armor ( or something even more race specific to Nords? ) within the Nord race... or have armors specific to any given race... so that the Daggerfall Covenant aren't all running around in Thalmor robes and the Ebonheart Pact don't look like the Imperial legion... while still giving players what they had in TES.

Possible or impossible?

There will be race specific clothing in this game. If you are a Breton Armorer you will be able to make Breton armor first and later you can learn to make Redguard and Orc racial armors. Once you unlock the 50+(+) zones you can go and learn how to make all the other races armors also. So it'll take a long time before a master craftsman will be able to create all the racial armors in the game.

What lepers said.

The only thing I'm curious about is how that will play out with the crafting restrictions and alts.

If the only way to make those alternate racial armour and weapons is character 'bound' in some respect (seems likely) then I could see most players taking up those two crafts on their mains and relegating the others to alts to avoid having to level each of them through all of the content.
