Race weight, is it fixed?

Post » Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:17 am

in Morrowind & Oblivion I liked to have short stocky characters(height 0.8 Weight 1.0) but in FO3 I found out quickly that the weight variable didn't work.

Anyone know if that is fixed

You can't edit height or weight without modding.

Did it ever actually do anything to the gameplay? Also I am sure, since the races in game are real, if they did that some dip-[censored] would label it racist and start hating on it.

In Oblivion, adjusting the Weight in the CS would control how thin the body is.

As far as the original question: we don't know yet if they fixed that.

They said something about changing age I think, so weight may be adjustable. It doesn't really matter anyway, just another aesthetic.

That would be something else entirely; though not unwelcome, of course.

Don't you think it would add a little more immersion to your character and NV experiece?

I'm not sure, I usually play in first person anyway so I don't really bother with my looks. I dunno. Unless you could make yourself wide enough to stop you going through doors, it wouldn't really change the gaming experience.

In that case, you don't see your face either, but you still get to design it. I play in first person as well... but I still think it would add to the overall experence. Although not being able to fit through a door would be uh.... oh man... extreme? lol

You can edit it in the CS and the GECK but the setting in the GECK has no effect ingame, unlike the setting in the CS.

So I'm guessing that's a glitch if it has no effect in game...seems pretty pointless...

I think the opposite of the Small Framed Trait is Bruiser. That might make it into New Vegas, and it should make you bigger.

Changing your characters body size to an extreme, should also effect your ability to use armor. A big fat guy is never gonna fit into a scrawny dweebs power armor, and a little pinner is gonna look like a kid in their parents boots if they try to use the leather armor some giant musclehead is wearing.

I doubt it will make you bigger, it just doesnt seem like something they would put into the game

While I could see that working up to a point, I think that if you go down to your local department store, get a fat guy and make him try on one size fits all clothing, you'll see how quickly that concepts fails.

Yes... in RL that concept fails miserably.

What if you're playing a male character, and you try a wear the armor you've looted from a female slaver, that appears to be very form fitting.... wouldn't that also make your character look a bit.... um.... feminine? I don't think it would stretch out like spandex. Just saying. It just so happens that every person in Fallout is the same size.

That wouldn't bother me either (not being able to wear armor from the other gender, or that if you do you look like your wearing womens armor)... I'm still playing PnP games, and I constantly make my players jump through hoops to get armor and gear to fit and be usable. I got tired of halflings scavenging shields from ogres, or dwarves putting on troll boots.

The classic rule of RPG armor.

Outside of a few games, and even then it was only special cases. Arcanum armor came in 3 sizes...Dwarf/Halfling, Human, and Half-Ogre. But within those 3 categories it was still one size fits all. Skinny human, bulky Orc- same armor size. Stocky Dwarf, emaciated Halfling- same armor size.

I think you should be able to choose body weight (fat) and muscle tone. This would have no real effect ingame, but it's a lot harder to relate to a character when he has 1str and still has a 6pack and bulging pecks. I want to make a character that looks like me, and I'm tall and skinny. My brother is short and skinny, my other brother is short and muscular. It would just be a cool effect and add to the depth of the game. (Slightly off topic) Stacking facial hairs would work nicely too. I have a goatee and sideburns, if I want to make a realistic me, he has to be tall, skinny, and have a goatee and sideburns, with short hair. Fallout3 offered EITHER a goatee or sideburns, they don't conflict, would it kill to have different facial hair slots?

I wouldn't mind weight or height, but then again I could care less. And it's just come to my attention that I've never seen a fat person in Fallout 3.
