Racial Extremist or Tryannical Extremist

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 2:39 am

I'm really having a hard time choosing between the imperials and the stormcloaks. Both are extremist. Stormcloaks are worse in their racial comments against all other races. And Imperials are tryannical extremist. Both of these factions are so extreme it's really hard to choose between one or the other.

What do you guys think?

Should I just skip Imperial and Stormcloaks?

Yeah, my assasin main character opped out of Thieves guild because they kept mentioning they don't operate like the dark brotherhood. That they don't kill, etc. And it felt like a cheap blow to my character who completed the Dark Brotherhood main quest line. I deleted any save in the thieves guild.

And I don't really think I'll join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks. It would be even weirder because my character is a dark elf and joining the stormcloaks would just feel to weird.

When I get around to it I'll be joining the Stormcloaks. My character attained a permanent grudge against the imperials when they sentenced me to death when my name wasn't even on the list.

Plus I always like it when a people rise up against the power and claim their land, think Gaddhafi or Saddam..

I'm not saying the imperials are anything like Gaddhafi or Saddam but you get my point

Its a fantasy game, you kind of have to get in character and into the spirit of the world, rather than playing it with a layer of modern day political correctness. I mean your playing in a world with dragons, magic, vampires and demons... and the racisim against fantasy elves is whats throwing you off?

My character is a fantasy elf.

edit-

It is all in his perspective.

Why would he want to join the Stormcloaks? They call his people spies. They treat his people like garbage.

But the imperials would sentence him death even when he wasn't even listed to die.

Rashir is chaotic neutral. He joins when he needs to survive. Right now he's doing pretty well surviving.

Erm, the Nords help build the empire. Good old Tiber Septim aka Talos, would be your Gaddhafi or Saddam, and he was a Nord :P

I don't see why it matters that it's made up. He probably doesn't sympathize with racists, and I can't say I blame him. Moreover, maybe he plays an elf. You do understand the concept of role-playing? (As in, you know, RPG)

I have a Nord so I joined the Stormcloaks and [censored] the Imperials in the ass with my 9 foot Battleaxe handle. But if I weren't a Nord then I'd done the other side...

I did reply I do play a Dark Elf. Always have been a Dark Elf user. So it's really hard to help the Stormcloaks out, when they were yelling at this poor woman in one of the cities Windhelm. Calling her a spy because she was different than them. It makes Rashir so angry.

I think the whole game should be banned because its offensive to pretend, not real people and races. What we need are some committees in the game who can meet and discuss the issues raised, then provide a positive, progressive and visionary response. Obviously consistent monitoring and statistical anolysis of occurences should be kept and regular focus group meetings arranged. Sub groups would be helpful. By introducing legislation and empowering people we should put a permanent end to this disgraceful and anti social behaviour. :intergalactic:

Other than that we could leave the political correctness of the real world in the dustbin where it belongs and is gradually sliding.

My character doesn't care about politics, especially in a foreign province, so she's not joining any of the two factions.

yeah it's like choosing between hitler and stalin, i like the fact that it's more a grey area than simple good or evil, but both sides are bastards really.

In all fairness your character was arrested in an area crawling with storm cloacks, and their leader. You were guilty by association, tough luck but it happens in wars. Besides the Nords hate lists, so they would have probably tried to kill you as well would the roles have been reversed.

Well....in Rashir's backstory there is a particular reason why he was fleeing Skyrim. He wasn't caught, but it's not like Rashir is innocent of crimes.

Even still it's hard being a Dark Elf in this game, I just feel like the Nords don't like him much....has nothing to do with the Dark Brotherhood, lol.

Well considering the massive immigration problems Skyrim has, and the fact that most Dark Elves aren't exactly friendly towards any other race, it's not that strange that you aren't liked... Coming from Morrowind just isn't a good thing right now.

My first character decided to support the Stormcloaks because she was under the impression that they were the best option to help combat the Thalmor. However she discovered this a little gem in the Thalmor embassy and immediately regretted her choice.
My current character couldn't care less either way, to be perfectly honest. She's partial towards the Imperials, but until push comes to shove she won't be supporting anyone in the war.

Yeah same here. Not that I did any of the imperial or stormcloak quest.

I'm not sure, either. Both have good points, but there are also things my character would not accept, though he's against war and such things in general anyways, so he tries to stay clear of these political questions.

He thinks the Elves have no right to forbid anyone's believes as long as they're not dangerous* and agreeing to it was rather weak of the Empire. I came across some Thalmor representatives and they attacked me because I said what I believe is none of their business. My character's not even worshipping Thalos. But the Empire itself isn't worse than any other regime, I guess.

And the stormcloakes are just racist and patriotic egoists. But opressing the Nords and their culture doesn't seem right, so I understand why they want to fight.

@it'safantasygamenoneedforpoliticalcorrectness: I think we're all entitled to play as the characters we want to play as. My academic, somewhat quixotic Breton is just as justified as some homeland loving Nord or evil assassin Dunmer with no respect for life and proprietorship.

The main problem is that the Imperials wanted to kill the main character and the Stormcloaks didn't really try to make that not happen.
So there's no good reason not to hate both...the dragon actually saved you, so it seems they are the good guys here. Why you have to default into killing them is beyond me. I'd like to be a dragon friend and ride one. CAN YOU MARRY DRAGONS?

Interesting point, however you have no other options as dragons will attack you if they see you.
