Radio Bug/Glitch

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:59 pm

When I got the game, I played through it and (quite excruciatingly) survived about 150 plays of Johnny Guitar, sometimes it would play two times in a row (Usually on Radio New Vegas, sometimes on Black Mountain Radio). Upon recent inspection, I've noticed that many songs are included in the sound track and are meant to be played (most notably Orange Colored Sky) but never do play.
At first, I chalked this up to the random song selector hating me and refusing to play songs I like and instead opting to punish me with Johnny Guitar, but upon further inspection, it seems nobody has been able to hear some of these songs (all of which seem to hate Johnny Guitar). I read somewhere that the reason for this is that the game has a bug that fails to reference some songs (It's usually either called a bug or calling the song file corrupted).
Unfortunately, the sources I find aren't official and not reputable enough for me to feel safe believing. Instead, I've hunted down this forum and browsed through it, unable to find even a whisper of this issue. So I come to you now, begging two things.
If anyone could verify why this is happening, that would be awesome.
If Bethesda could patch Johnny Guitar out of the game's soundtrack period, that would be even better, but I can understand if that's not really an option.
Anyway, that's all I really have to say. Just, if anyone has a link to a reason why it's happening or if anyone has any info on whether or not this is going to be fixed in the patch, that would be awesome.

EDIT: ugh, just noticed I misspelled "Potential" in the description... that's gonna drive me nuts...

Is that the song about a big iron on his hip? That's the only song that plays for me, just that one song, over and over and over. So i have the radio off, which i'm sure means i'm missing out on some of the fun in this game. The radio shows were great on Fallout 3, so hopefully this can be patched.

No, that song is "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins. That's a good song, but I can see it getting annoying after too much playing. I got a pretty good variety, some people seem to have different problems. My friend experienced over-playing of "Jingle Jangle Jingle" by Kay Kyser, which is a really good song, but it ends up getting on your nerves when it plays twice as often. Everyone I've talked to seems to have a problem with the radio in the game. My personal problem is that Wayne Newton is the opposite of fun to listen to, whereas Three-Dog was perfect in almost every conceivable way. You're not missing out on too much by having the radio off the entire time, especially if it only plays one song over and over. I just love the music in the game, and thankfully I seem to get about 90% of the soundtrack functioning properly. I just wish Orange Colored Sky would play period and Johnny Guitar would play a lot less.

It seems very weird that different people are getting it with different songs, and some people aren't getting it all. That means it's definitely not a genuinely corrupt file, as everyone would get the same song. But it's still very annoying, It's like some kind of torture, 'Give us your star bottle caps or it's back on with the song!'
Hopefully they'll address it in a patch.
I've found so many bugs in this game, that i avoid certain areas which i know will cause me problems, but the radio is with you all the time, so off it goes!
I can't believe they're already gearing up for a DLC release, while these issues are floating around. LOL

Yeah, that's why I was inclined to believe it's a bug. It does seem pretty universal though that Johnny Guitar is the single worst song ever written. I'm gonna start a Facebook petition to get them to patch the song out of the game entirely, so we'll see how that goes.
I really hadn't noticed many bugs, I ran into the one where killing things in VATS makes them fall through the ground and into the netherspace of doom and turmoil, the one where the "Old Cowboy Hat" one, and every once in a while my character phases through boulders and gets stuck. All in all, I haven't experienced nearly the bugs or glitches that many others have complained about, but there's still a few. I even got through a full playthrough and a half before experiencing anything beyond the "Increasingly long load times" but that's understandable.
It makes sense that they're gearing up for a DLC release, they don't have as many file-size constraints from Microsoft to be able to include patches with DLC. The patch and the DLC will most likely launch together. Here's hoping the DLC doesn't have as many bugs.

I don't even know what the DLC Load Bug is, mine doesn't seem to have any problem loading my pre-order DLC, and the patches seem to have applied without a hitch. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones? But yes, Johnny Guitar is quite the insanity inducing material.
My first playthrough was on hardcoe mode with the difficulty set to Very Hard and I reached a point in the game where I was advancing against Cook-Cook. Rex and I were in a thin alleyway where we had a short reprieve from a previous assault from some fiends, and we were healing and preparing for the battle ahead. As I applied my fixer (and subsequently, more chems), I ran fiercely into battle, just after making a save state. I charged forth, and suddenly Johnny Guitar would begin. Forcefully, I would head shot fiend after fiend, utilizing my Steady and high guns skills.
That's when it would happen. Cook-Cook would come from around the corner, frenzied at the death of his cow, spraying anything nearby with fire in a massive fit of rage. My vision gets blurry as all my chems wear off, and I run forward, touting my own heavy incinerator. I shoot fire ball after fire ball into him in VATS, noticing only after it's too late that Rex, my faithful companion, has sprung forth, flying in front of me, absorbing fire ball after fire ball with his torso. Suddenly, he would fall, and that woman would wail "Joooohnnyyyy guitaaaaaaaar" just as his helpless body hit the ground, failing just short on our way to Jacobstown to get him a new brain.
Refusing to accept this loss, I reloaded my previous save state and tried it again, this time without using my heavy incinerator so as not to set my poor pet ablaze. Things go smoothly until, true to form, Cook-Cook rears his ugly head from the area he's in. In his favor, he does manage to successfully aggravate me about 15 times during the course of my day, killing Rex, killing me, somehow choreographing his massacre to the tune of Johnny Guitar every time. Eventually I became so fed up with my failure, that I stopped, waited for Johnny Guitar to finish, made a new save state, told Rex to wait for me very far away, then systematically slaughtered all the fiends. It worked out quite well for me that time.
So, yes, I do have some negative associations with that song, but I don't feel it's too much to request it's complete obliteration from the game's soundtrack as a whole.
