I have to ask as when I look on my friends lists on xbox live I have on occasion seen various people playing Rage (I notice it as I personally loved the game and I think it is under-rated and was massively overlooked - due to people seeing it as "another Fallout but not as good" and haven't been pulled into it's world, lore and setting. I personally see it not as post nuclear but more as Star Wars set on asteroid hit Earth - rebel alliance v's evil empire with vehicles instead of spaceships. The people, soldiers, towns, cars, trucks, trains and airships look great).

I have not however to my knowledge recalled seeing a single person playing Doom. Nor have I heard anyone saying speaking it or quoting it. Xbox live in the OSX report did have one of it's presenters list Rage as one of his favorite games of that year. I have not seen any reports on Doom other than the first Doom from back in the Playstation One and N64 days.

I personally have vowed never to buy another game from the developers unless they finish of (the excellent) Rage which to me is left incomplete (Even a small dlc which enables us to free-roam, race and mutant bason one site that they are giving Rage free when you buy Doom. I am hoping this is to spread the game further before they release a dlc for Rage. Hopefully the success of Borderlands 2 will eventually leave fans of that series looking for a another game similar once they have run out of things to do which will also push Rage sale further. I think I will leave a review on Amazon recommending Rage as a well priced equivalent for people to try.
