Rage eats all my cpu power

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:19 pm

Hi,

I don't understand why rage is taking all my cpu power,i have an i7 950,4 Go and an amd 6870.
I never had any problems with my other games,i have the latest amd drivers.
I also created a rage folder in "appdata".
You can see 2 screens here : http://imageshack.us/g/88/ragel.jpg/

It would be nice if anybody could find a solution for me.

Thanks,
Johann

When you say "latest drivers" do you mean the latest official Catalyst 11.9? If that's the case there are known issues with AMD cards and Rage with current official drivers that cause CPU saturation. You can possibly alleviate that by using the latest preview driver from AMD http://www2.ati.com/..._win7_vista.exe

The official line is that you use all unofficial or unverified drivers at your own risk. Lots of people have used these preview drivers without problems though so it's up to you. For many of us, using the preview 3 driver has meant that we can actually play the game at long last. The only problem I've had is that installing the preview drivers has caused some minor visual problems with other games.

I tried to play rage with amd driver preview 2 and preview 3,preview 3 made my game even worse(freezes, low fps) so i'm using the preview 2 rat the moment.
It seems that lots of pc users have problem with this game anyway so i hope id software will make another patch which will fix all problems but i have doubts because they don't care about pc users since the game has been developped for consoles...

Hi,

Im not 100% sure what kind of system the screenshots were taken on, but it's definitly not an Core i7 950 Cpu which has 4 Cores/8 Threads whereas the Cpu load graphs in the taskmanager indicate that you run a dual core system (or worse a single core system with Hyperthreading). So the CPU you are running (probably a Core 2 Duo or a Pentium Dual Core) is MUCH weaker than an i7 950. That might also explain why the cpu is reaching its limits with playing Rage.

You might want to use CPU-Z to check what kind of CPU your system is really equipped with.

I'm sure i have an i7 950, nevertheless it seems that rage doesn't use his 4 cores but only 2 while i'm playing, i don't know why.
As you can see, i have an i7 950 : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/i7950.jpg/
Here is another screen with cpu-z : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/844/cpugn.jpg/
