Rage not starting

Hello everyone!

I just bought Rage, after seeing the videos and hearing my friends talk about it I thought I was missing out on something awesome.

It installed correctly, no problems there.

But when I try to run it, the Rage Console comes up with this message:

I installed both updates and checked my graphics card drivers, but it still won't run...

PC INFO:
HP Probook 4530s Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel HD 3000 onboard graphics
4GB RAM

Can anyone help me?

The problem is the Intel graphics...though some have managed to get it working with Intel, it is not offcially supported. You need either an Nvidia or AMD graphics.

The error is because your graphics does not have the OpenGL features needed for the games engine.

But I bought this laptop because it said the Intel HD Graphics supported OpenGL software acceleration, and it runs 3D games like Doom 3 just fine...

Does this mean I wasted $25?

While it may support much older OpenGL games, the engine for RAGE is far more advanced than Doom 3. If your drivers are up to date, there won't be much else you can do.

Hopefully someome who comes here can help you, as I said, some have had success getting it to work with Intel graphics.

This is the error you get when your drivers are too old.
You need to update your GPU drivers, though I'm not sure how with an Intel HD gpu.

I wouldn't trust windows when it comes to graphics drivers. Go to Intel's site. Or try the one xaxxiron777 posted.

Did you try to actually download and install the driver? I wouldn't trust any (most) readings from Windows when it comes to updates or drivers (no offense Microsoft)

I tried installing several drivers from the website, every time I got a notification that my drivers were up to date
I then opened the Device Manager and right clicked the grahpics setting and clicked Update Drivers. It told me again that my drivers were the latest.

Download the driver posted above, unzip when done downloading.
Do as you did posted in this reply, but use manual pick the driver and point it to where you unzipped the driver files.
The driver date left above is 5/24/2012, check the date and version of the one you have installed now.
I was able to get Rage working on a 1st gen Intel? HD Graphics so it should work on a 3rd gen, as I seen post saying
it worked pretty well. Much better FPS than I was able to get on the 1st gen Intel? HD Graphics.
