Rage Patch 1.2 Issues

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:55 am

Hi,
My version of steam auto patched to 1.2. yesterday. Since then Rage has suffered from really bad stuttering and slowdown. I've tried changing the vscync settings and this results in either slowdown, screen tearing or slightly more playable fps with tearing! Before the patch it was actually very smooth and ran at max settings with no issues so it appears the patch has caused issues here.

I have a retail copy of Rage and was wondering if its possible to patch it to 1.1 only rather than auto patch to 1.2.
Also is there anyone else having similar issue and if there are any temp fixes?

Cheers!

If you backed up the game when it was 1.1 you could probably restore with that.
That being said you would have to play the game in offline mode in order for it to not re-patch back to 1.2 update.
I was playing with 1.0 but turning the auto updater off didn't seem to work, it still updated, only way not to get the update was set steam to play in offline mode.
Then restore back to 1.0.

Edit: I am seeing one problem I wasn't before the 1.2 update now.
Anytime I get into a car my frame rate drops to 30 FPS, where before it was always 60 fps no matter what I was doing.
I have changed drivers, but had problems with those and went back to what I was using, but its still there 30 fps.
I did raise all new added video settings to max, but it was still 60 fps no matter what with 290.53 driver.
I updated to 295.xx is when the problem started, I did a clean install back to 290.xx and the problem remains.
The game is still very much playable even at 30 fps, but was much smoother at the 60 fps.
So I'm not sure if its the patch or driver related. I did notice it updated the cuda driver, but didn't see where it downgraded when I when back to 290.xx.
So there could be a problem in the new cuda driver. This is on the Desktop rig in my sig.
I thought at the time folding@home was the only thing having problems, but I also installed the 295 driver on a rig with a GTX260 and it had
problems folding stable as well. I'll add this info to my driver post so others will know before updating to 295 there could be problems.

Very true - the darn thing is still on beta drivers so this could be one of its issues! However it was working fine before the patch.

Both Rage and the 7970 drivers have had more problems then usual and the latest ones either play Rage well or mess up every other game. Since this patch adds new features to the game I wouldn't be surprised if the drivers need to be reworked as well. Kinda svcks, but that's the price we pay for buying the latest and greatest video cards. The first few months worth of drivers always have issues.

very true - but its working one heck of a lot better than the HD5870 Crossfire configuration I had!!! Less time fixing issue more time gaming!!!

I've sorted this now - created a config file using commands I came across yesterday and it helps if you turn off texture Details (really doesnt appear to be much difference!). Also used catalyst to force triple buffering, vsync and high quality texture filter and sufrface format opt and also AF x 16. Working very well so far!!!!

Can you give a benchmark for Rage? I know they're pretty abstract as benchmarks go, but its nice to have something.
