Horrid popping and streaming textures, crashes, glitchy graphics, Save game issues, accelerated mouse issues, no advanced video options - all signs of a very poor console port.
Why was this released in this manner? I'll tell you why, strait from the mouth of ID's legendary robo-brain John Carmack, " We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games ".
This kind of PC wave-off, is typical of consoles make money, personal computers don't attitude which seems to be the current agenda for most of the brand name developers nowadays.
This is reinforced by the fact that ID's Creative director Tim Willits stated, " Rage plays better on a pad " even before the release of the game.
Even the rage pc manual states on page 13, "RAGE supports the use of a gamepad [controller] and players are encouraged to use one if they have it"
In addition, it is quite obvious, that little to no testing was done on PC's outside of ID's development team. Carmack said, " We knew that all older AMD drivers, and some Nvidia drivers would have problems with the game, but we were RUNNING WELL IN HOUSE on all of our test systems "
So at this point, I really got to wonder, how much out of house beta testing was done ? Or why was a PC demo not released ?
This all reverts back to Carmacks famous words, " We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games ".
Regardless of ID's PC stand, There is no reason for a product to be issued in this condition, other than incompetence or a willingness to release a inferior PC product.
