Rage is making me install by downloading from steam, but I want to install from the disc, does anybody know if there's a way to get it to install from the disc?

no its gonna load through steam either way but loading it from disc makes it faster instead of having to stream the download like a normal steam game. but im pretty sure there is no way to get around using steam.

From past "steam powered" game DVD purchase experience, really the only thing the DVD is going to provide is a local pre-cache of the game (if you will) so that it can copy those files over to your Steam folder, then perform any updates/decryption/etc. via Steam. id has already mentioned though, that ONCE you have activated via a steam account, you will NEVER have to go online again.. you just have to plugin and 'activate', then you can go in offline mode and never go back. (sorry I don't have this link, but if anyone else might please feel free to help a brotha out).

Hope this answers your question.

I don't think it's copying any files from the dvd, I think it's downloading them ALL from steam because it's telling me I have to download 21 GB which is going to take 4 hrs, although now it's down to less than 3.

I had the same problem. Windows 7 64 bit.

I had to delete the game in steam and start all over. where everything went wrong is during please insert disc 2. after you insert disc 2 just chill for a min. wait for the windows pop up to open, then exit out of that. Then hit ok on the install disc 2 from the steam window. be very carefull not to just click away all over the place. just click ok, once if it doesnt catch wait a second and then click okay again.

This was very annoying btw. Hope this helps.

Steam by default will attempt to install games via download. You can install from DVD by following the instructions in the link below.

I'm using windows XP and had the same problem with disk 2. I followed AJFLICK42 instructions and the game installed for me!!!! I think the key was to wait for the windows pop up and then click the OK. Installed fine. Thanks for the great tip.
