RAM and CPU detection problem

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:10 am

Enable console via the launch options button: +set com_allowConsole 1
Open the game, open the console, then scroll to the very top. For most people (myself included), it says I have a 3MHz CPU installed, and 0 MB of video RAM.

Is this the reason for the incredibly shoddy PC performance?

For reference, here are a few of my PC's specs:

Core i7-2600k (Overclocked to 5.0GHz)
16 GB RAM
nVidia GTX 590

Yep, I just checked and have that exact same problem. 3MHz CPU and 0MB video memory. Oddly, it does recognize that it is a quad core.

Any recommended fixes for getting the game to recognize BOTH CPU and GPU?

This clearly can't be an ATI drive issue if it also doesn't properly recognize the CPU.

Probably why everyone is getting crap textures, the game thinks you have low specs. This is the danger of auto configuration.

Tried this and mine shows up correct... that explains why my game runs great :)

Actually this is most likely why we're getting low frames and terrible texture loading, I noticed this last night when the game first came out, but I wasn't sure it wasn't just me. Even without the auto config the game would probably have a hard time reading what our specs are. id and Bethesda need to send out a patch ASAP or risk losing a huge amount of PC gamers.

But if your video card had 0 MB VRAM it wouldn't even have memory enough for the framebuffer

What are your specs, if you don't mind? Wonder if you have a similar build to what they used to develop the game.

EDIT: Xaxxiron, that might be why the pop-in is so heinous for most PC gamers, until you force V-Sync and buffering in the nVidia control panel.

That might be it. I'm using the beta drivers, and I also have the Steam version.

so THIS is why the CPU is eating 100% ? Game isn't recognizing video card ram?

How do you get the game makers to see THIS INFO ASAP? This would be the problem most all people are having!

Would solve Pop-in and freezing/locking up (but not crashing?)

I'm pretty sure all of iD software and Bethesda are reading these forums.

And most likely ATI/NVIDIA as well.

If not, THEY SHOULD BE.

Anyone have a twitter account? You can tweet Carmack himself.

http://twitter.com/#!/ID_AA_Carmack

Maybe tweet him this thread as well with over 30k views:

At least the press is listening. Bad Rage PC articles are popping up everywhere describing the pain everyone in these forums has experienced.

Worst game launch I've ever been involved with.

Ever.

Yup, having the same problem here. 0 megs of VRam recognized by the engine. Huge problem. iD needs this info.

Talked with some folks on the team. This readout isn't used by the code and has no affect on performance.

C'mon ID this is ridiculous, so many people having problems and almost nothing is getting fixed. Good to see I'm not the only one with this problem though.

Thanks for letting us know, and making the effort to bring these issues to the attention of the team. However, I still have a hunch that this readout, along with the "auto-detect" graphics settings, and the low res textures/horrible texture streaming issues are all related. It makes perfect sense why most users with these texture problems are showing 0 vid. memory while those without problems have their vid. memory correctly listed.
