RANDOM CRASH TO DESKTOP IN MIDDLE OF GAME

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 8:31 pm

Apparently http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/skyrim-crashing-to-desktop--no/1261035.

Playing on a self built rig, Win 7 64-bit, NVidia GeForce GTX 465, 8gb DDR3, Core i5-2500K @ 4.0ghz.

The game installed fine, plays and looks great (aside from the wobbly shadow edges).

But the problem is that I'm playing the game. Everything seems fine. And the *BOOM* I'm staring at my desktop. No error messages, no warnings. It just happens instantly, and I lose everything up until my last save point.

I've been playing 4 hours, and it's happened twice, at completely random times in the game.

Help!

Apparently I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Playing on a self built rig, Win 7 64-bit, NVidia GeForce GTX 465, 8gb DDR3, Core i5-2500K @ 4.0ghz.

The game installed fine, plays and looks great (aside from the wobbly shadow edges).

This is been happening to me also, after playing for 3 hours on the 11th and the morning of the 12th. I get up boot up pc make coffee etc... play 10 min and BOOM CTD! .. thx bethes thx a lot! Gret game but this is not what i was looking for : random coffee breaks ??

Anyway they better get a patch out ! SOON!

Just to give a brief explanation of what if tried so far:

First :: What does not work?

-It does not work to edit/change any setting of the sound etc to 24bit, 16bit..none, none, none... this is for those who gets the crash upon launch ..not random CTD's
-It does not work to change the shadow detail. to what ever setting...
-It does not work to lower any graphic setting... (this is b*llsh*t are Bethesda now launching games that we must play graphics on the lowest, with high end hardware that cost us a arm and a leg??)
-It does not work to play with a controller (one guy posted this on a forum lol) -- what the hell - if we want to play with a controller we would have bought the console version.....
-It does not work to play without steam client running. - this time its not steam! ---low textures on ultra settings ??? wth?
*PS-its does not work to verify steam file integrity.. its bull sh*t .. been there tried that.

- not a steam issue - this is a developer thing - they have to fix it...can't let such a great game be negative discussion on forums all over.. for peet sake .. we should be busy playing the game .. and discussing what game tips etc we can do, character builds and quests!!

Second :: What does work ?

- This is my research of 3 days thus far...

- Well Nothing that has been mentioned so far...NOTHING!!!! - this is at there problem .. Im no pro at dev, programming - but it seams this game is underdeveloped or not complete,,, that the crashes..un-rendered textures, some claim to see purple/pink textures. -maybe a cache error who KNOWS?? :(

It may be the above mentioned , it may be something simple ,, al I know is that its not WORKING,, and all we who PAID for it , want to do is : PLAY.. PLAY.. Im not interested in becoming a programmer or developer ....

So what do we do wait... wait ..wait... :(

LAST:

This is my conclusion .. I dont want to sound negative,...,,,., so lets keep are hopes up and keep trying new things ,, so that this thing can be FIXED FOR REAL..

GOOD DAY TO ALL ! ENJOY LIFE! -- even when Bethesda disappoints us...LOL :) ..Good Luck to you Bethes,,,,

Cheers

Wolf xD

**PS o yeah -- here is my system specs: Intel i5 760, Gigabyte Geforce GTX 460 1GB, Trancend axeram 4GB DDR3 2000Mhz, 1TB Seagate Hardrive. Coolermaster 750W PSU.

Thanks, but no xfire... having the same problem and can even repreduce it 100% of the time with certain quests, and nothing I've changed has had any effect.

I have found that it happens only when I have used the Steam overlay to take a screenshot. Perhaps turning off the overlay (or refraining from using the Steam screenshot tool) would help you?

I have done count less trouble shoots for this issue as well, from many people proclaiming this this or that to fix it, and still I have the same problem. I get about 4 CTD an hour, it's becoming unplayable right now. I am hoping Bethesda comes out with a patch VERY soon to address these issues.

Some CTDs are 100% game related and you can't do anything about it most likely. I crash on the same exact spot every damn time, through different things I'm doing in game.

Just sit back and wait for a patch.

I've spent more time playing 'Find the cause of the CTD! & The tales of the SkyrimPrefs.ini' than some other actual games, lol.

I found all my instant CTD's are related to Steam.

So I ran TESV.exe out of the steamapps folder and haven't had a single crash all day. Explain please?

Skyrim doesn't like interfaces over it, like Xfire. While others get CTDs only if they don't run Steam.

It's all insanely fubar.

I've had this same issue. I also have blue-screened twice. Both bluescreens were while I was online with steam. It hasn't happened while I was in offline mode.

Does this game mess with heat and fan controls? I suspect the fans aren't running enough while I play.

All graphic intense games ,,, make your hardware work... so the heat will be more.. but it cannot mess with fan controls ... download fan speed and check if all fans are running....

PS : Your Graphics card seem pretty low for the game so it may overwork/overheat...... just a thought..

Hi All ..

RE: Random crash to desktop problem...

a solution has been found : could not remember the guy's name but thanks man !

It works like this the program allows your game to access your total memory/ram...

This is program :

"Large Address Aware

This is an application that assists in making applications large address aware. When a 32-bit application is Large Address Aware, it can access up to 4 GiB on x64 operating systems and up to 3 GiB on x86. 64-bit versions of Windows require no modifications to the operating system to benefit from this application; however, in 32-bit versions of Windows, you must increase the user memory setting. Instructions how to do this are in spoiler below. It is not advised to use this application if you have less than 3 GiB of RAM.

IT HAS WORK FOR ME SO FAR , AND NO CASH WHATSOEVER ... :)

I'm on Win 7 64 bit. I would get CTDs every couple of hours until I ran this app that Wolf linked. I played a good five hours today with no CTDs. That doesn't mean it couldn't crop back up, but it seems to be working for me and a lot of other people.

Hey guys - there is an official sticky thread for this. When you crash, quickly type up/write down where you were in the world and what you were doing (as best you can remember) and post in that thread with your DXDIAG as from what we can tell they are focusing on fixing the crashes before anyhting else (so it seems)

Yes I have been there just now .. its not much help.. the crashes are random.. are they going to go through all of the "location" crashes ...?? lol - then the patch will release in year time... this game is huge and the locations/instances are almost limitless... 0)

Since I have been using the address aware program, my game has not crash as yet and its been 3 days now... :)

But at least they are doing something about it... Good Luck...Waiting

As for me Im of playing.....

Cheers
