It is just like playing my scratched San Andreas disk on my ps2 again. I'm walking around near Novac, and no matter which direction I go, the crash begins to happen. Frame rates fall, the sound disappears and then it freezes. Its the worst kind of freeze, it literally stops. I am able to get rid of the overlay with the Task Manager but the process remains no matter what I do and it the computer won't safely shut down as a result so I have to do so unsafely to rid the computer of the unkillable program.

I'm miserably uninstalling it despite such a [censored] promising start. No bugs, no glitches, no errors, no tearing, minimal fps drops, minimal stuttering.... but I've just gone down to Primm and come up to Freeside and took some Crimson Caravan jobs and the errors started happening. Every time I try to enter McCarran it doesn't stop the roulette loading screen and my HDD makes weird noises. I tried to avoid it but it seemed that a third of every house or entrance I used would give me the same result. And again, a forced restart. So I avoided these areas and decided to take on the Ghoul problem west of NOVAC... but as I started to walk up the hill, it gave me the slow freeze and then crash. First the radio, the sound, FPS drops then total freeze. And it does this no matter which direction I turn.

I am genuinely miserable having to uninstall it. I will be trying to reinstall but if that doesn't fix it then... the preordered collectors edition will just sit there as a mockery of the stupid decision I made to buy New Vegas. At least until its patched, which I hope comes soon, but some things weren't patched for a long time in Fallout 3, so I'm pessimistic about the whole thing.

When did you begin playing - just now, or like a week ago?
I started almost a week ago, Oct.19 (opening day) and now I'm like you.
My theory is that the fixes they have rolled out so far have somehow killed day-one savegames, it's not a PC or driver problem...
But I hope not.

Got it on UK day release so all the instant bugs and glitches that americans faced were ironed out but my glitches are still there...

Have you tried verifying the files? Although the reinstall will do the same thing I imagine.

I'm in the same boat. Everything worked fine (for the most part) from 2am Tue till yesterday. I even formatted and installed a fresh copy of win 7 64. Then I installed the new nvidia's drivers that came out today. It made it worse. Its sees all the gpus but frame rate is way down. The load still doesn't go above 40% . A new problem i encountered is every time i go to interact with something: looting a body, looking in a mailbox, purchasing from vendors...it sounds like a cd skipping, or broken record. it lasts for 1 second or two then goes away.

Its just the worst. CD skipping is exactly what its like.
