The encounter is the one were you save a dawnguard named hakar who then quits and drops his gear. For the last day I have been trying to get this encounter by riding around on my hourse with no luck. For the people who have seen if what hold were you in, was it day or night and were. I would be greatful for any info anyone has thxs.

I ran into him at one of the encounter spots near Whiterun. Standing in front of Honningbrew Meadery, proceed east across the bridge and continue following the path. You should hit an encounter spot along the road before reaching the Ritual Stone location.

And it was daytime for me, though I doubt the time of day matters.
