Random killings almost killed all NPC's in my game

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:48 am

im on pc so i just do resurrections sometimes i think that TES should be better only for pc, sorry but with everything they could do and with the mods and all that it would be probably maybe a perfect game, although i would like Xbox and PS3 players to play it too
Considering vampires reanimate most of their victims, resurrecting them is a pain, since instead of a real corpse we have ashes and dead thralls. >.<
So I just installed a mod to stop those attacks, too annoying - the only mod I use other than the unofficial patch.

One of the first mods I downloaded for Skyrim was called "Adventurers and Travelers" from the Nexus.
This mod adds generic people to the towns and the roads. I don't what level they are but they seem quite strong.
They travel in groups of about 5 or so. I saw a bunch of them make short work of vampires attacking Solitude in
my current game.

Maybe this would help.

I've looked around, but has a Bethesda rep addressed this?

Just to be clear, I have no problem with random vampire attacks.
If bethesda says, "Hey, you don't want your NPCs dead? Then FIGHT!"
That's cool.

But coming across dead people from the other side of town that probably died more than two autosaves ago?
Lame.

I know there are things you can do to avoid it, but... that kinda svcks.

Please...
-Make the NPCs more cowardly.
-Play music whenever you're in town with a vampire fight (a la dragons).
-In big towns, coordinate vampire spawns with the player entry point.

I would be happy with any of these. I bought Dawnguard but decided not to play it immediately. Instead I tried increasing my smithing skill by buying leather FROM EVERY TOWN. So... I don't know who's dead. Worried i'll have to load from a way earlier save.

At first, I actually cared about the NPCs dying. Now? Pfff, whatever. The best place for buying stuff is in the Thieve's Guild, which is underground. I've done pretty much all of the quests. For me, I couldn't care less, anymore. I'll be using Auriel's Bow everyday, so let the undead apocalypse come! I'll be hanging out with my buddies in the castle, Brotherhood Sanctuary, Thieve's Guild, and College. They, at least, are prepared. :P

My suggestion to you is to finish off the guilds. It'll make the vampire attacks seem a lot less punishing.

i have learn one trick and since i started using it in my new game play no attacks i am about 60 hrs in. the trick is you can not enter town later than 7 pm and once you do you have to go to sleep cant walk around after 8 pm in town (if you do you risk attack) and wake up later than 6 am. i noticed that the day time attacks on towns were only happening if i would enter town like lets say at 10 pm to 5 am and there might not be attack at that moment but once i go to my house and come out next morning boom attack ( so it really was trigger by my actions at night)

i recommend trying this like i said it worked 100% so far for me

Random Vampire attacks as they are, are a major pain in the bum. Like a previous poster said, being made to jump through hoops all the time to try and limit all the problems this causes, totally spoils immersion IMO and I have long since un-installed DG for this very reason.

IMO not having the random attacks would ruin the immersion... having a 100% safe zone in a place like Skyrim is just totally "unrealistic" imo.. However, they could better equip the npcs, maybe some battle gear they dress in when there is something hostile... or even making it to where some npcs actually run away from the attacks to a safe area instead of into the battle with a iron dagger and town cloths..

Has anyone looked at the scripts to find out exactly what is going on with them?

I looked at a mod that is specifically designed to stop the attacks and the notes seemed to suggest they appeared in a timed cycle. So an attack would happen after a certain amount of time has passed after the last one and not limited to day or night .I expect there is a lot more to it than that so would be very helpful having all the facts in one place so we could look at them instead of going round and round in circles on this issue.

To each his own. The only place I've seen attacks happen on this first play through of DG is Riften.. and there are alot of imperial guards around it... only had 1 npc death and it wasnt an "essential" npc.

I like the idea of having legitimate threats to NPCs. It's just poorly implemented with the repeated attacks and poor AI. Peasants with iron daggers should not be tangling with Volkihar Master Vampires.
