Reallow binding to Hotkey 2

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:36 pm

I was very disappointed to see that you guys made it so that Hotkey 2 is reserved for ammo swap, and even if you change key you still can't bind stuff there. I used to always bind my sidearm there, it would be nice if you guys changed that.

I agree, its annoying that they hard-coded that slot when there are only 8 (now7) available binds for the PC.

Hopefully they can change this in a patch.

This is a pain. Swapping ammo is not something I do all the time. Swapping between a Rifle and a Pistol is. They have always been 1 and 2 for me in every game that allows this.

Yes, fix the Keyboard Mapping.

Not being able to map all the hot keys the way I want to is extremely annoying. The number two keys was also the one I used for my pistol Pachira.

Yes please, another vote from me.

Like others I always use #1 for my preferred weapon and #2 for my secondary weapon, this has thrown me completely and having fewer available hotkeys is a right pain, there aren't enough as it is IMO!

Totally agree.

Had a set up in Fallout 3...

1. Primary weapon
2. Secondary weapon
3. Melee weapon
4. Grenades
etc.

Without "2" my set up is totally messed up. I tried changing mine to "x" but I still can't use "2", now I can't change ammo swap back to "2" so it's become totally useless.

I just don't understand why they made ammo swap one of the hotkeys and not one of the many unused letters.

I usually had 1 as melee 2 as pistol 3 as shotgun if I had one 4 as rifle 5 as grenades. It's really annoying to have to use 3 as my pistol slot and throws me off completely.

I agree. They must have been on crack when they decided to do this.

I think they decided that since the consoles must give up a hot-key button to use the new ammo swap feature, they would do the same to the PC so we don't have an advantage with more hot-keys.

I tried adding a line for hot-key 2 in the FalloutPrefs.ini file, but it didn't work. :sadvaultboy:

What I find silly is that you can disable 2 from switching ammo by changing the bind, but you still can't bind anything to 2. 2 just becomes useless :/

This is annoying to me as a console user too, since they replaced Up on the D-Pad with the ammo swap and it can't be changed. Since the Xbox 360 controller D-Pad is terrible to begin with, a lot of times using the halfway directions (up+left or down+right for example) doesn't work right, so I always used the standard up, down, left, and right directions as the 4 primary spots for mapping things. Now one of those is gone, and I don't really swap ammo much anyway.

Absolutely needs to be re-bindable.

I also was immensely annoyed by the inability to use 2 for a real hotkey. 'x' is a perfect key for ammo slot and somewhat standardized already. Don't keep your players constantly switching layouts between games when it isn't necessary.

If you click "Restore Defaults" the 2 will go back to being ammo swap. I had the same issue.

YES! I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!

i rebound ammo swap to the mouse wheel button because on hardcoe mode ammo swapping can be VERY beneficial and tactical, BUT i would like to use 2 as a hotkey for which-ever i feel it should be at whatever time. this is EXTREMELY annoying! what's the point of being able to rebind the ammo-swap if it doesn't free up the 2 key? DUMB.

Yeah, I agree. It's throwing me off...I keep needing to look at the keyboard when I switch weapons. :D

Especially it being the number 2 key.
Why not 1 ?

Why not 1 ?

Because the choice was based on an xbox controller. Weapon Slot 2 corresponds to UP on the D-Pad, which they decided was convenient for ammo swap. Slot 1 is Up/Left on the D-Pad, and as mentioned by someone above, the diagonal D-Pad button-press is a little unreliable.

To take your question further, why not ANY other key that wasn't being used already? We PC players are stuck with this silly key choice for reasons that have NOTHING to do with using the control scheme on a keyboard.

I don't have the game yet but I've heard about this "2" issue. Here's a proposal:

Holding the reload key (R by default on PC) shouldn't be holster, instead it should be change ammo. Holding a quick key (1 to 8 on PC) should be holster equipped weapon instead of put away equipped weapon.

Or even better, just add a [censored] separate keybind to change ammo function.

that is what we're getting at. you can change the ammo swap to whatever you want. it just leaves the 2 key dead, which is what (i believe) is what we are all heated about.

Yeah sure, in an ideal world everything should be a standalone key, people also complained back at FO3's release about holding reload to put weapons away, and I was one of them. But remember, the only reason they hijacked the 2 key is to fit the new "change ammo" function to gamepads which have limited number of buttons. So to free it up, "change ammo" should be used somewhere that doesn't occupy an extra button, at least on consoles, hence my "hold reload button to change ammo" suggestion.

yeah. reload is 'x' for me. so it's not a pain to reload or holster a weap. firing is a simple unholster. i was meaning holding the selected hotkey to holster that weap was a horrible idea because the weap i'm using isn't always a hotkeyed weap, hence why i think it's a horrible idea. i feel if you rebind the ammo-swap key it will free up the 2 key, that simple. PCs are the superior game system and it really urks me that lazy designers just port from inferior consoles and don't "update" the game to work more easily with keyboards/gamepads and mice. not all of us love the controller.
