Really....?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:12 pm

If I enter my own home, I don't expect my Housecarl to go "You lost?" or "I hope you're not here to cause any trouble, friend".

Seriously, I know that the NPC awareness of your actions in Skyrim aren't exactly perfect, but stuff like this are the bare minimum to expect...

Anyone else find this frustrating? It's hard to RP properly.

I get such lines from Jordis and Calder. Lydia and Iona always greet their Thane properly :P It is pretty odd, but maybe the reason is that Hjerim and Proudspire are pretty big houses and unlike Lydia and Iona, Jordis and Calder don't always immediately see who came in through the door and want to fend off potential intruders just in case ;)

With a game world as huge and immersive as Skyrim's, sometimes the details get lost in the shuffle.

This, and Valdimar has always been respectful to me (although so far he's been in my company the whole time, so maybe he'll start being a dike when I have him wait in the manor).

It's not a huge turnoff but I do agree with you. Same thing when you happen to barely touch a basket in a corner, they're all like: "Hey, watch it!!!"

I get it from any housecarl parked near the door when one of my characters enters their own home. I did consider killing them for it, but it seemed possible I would run out of houecarls, I can live with it. There was a comment made along the lines of turning a blind eye, as your character is arranging something stolen in the house that got me going though, Calder was shipped of to the Blades for saying that once too often.

I find it trivial compared to the guards constantly saying "let me guess someone stole your sweetroll" but thanks to having the sense to buy the Pc version i can remove these annoyances with a variety of mods

It can be immersion-breaking, I agree. But I RP it as my spouse and servants just kidding around by pretending they don't know me when I come home.

Be careful, The steward took over your house, you are forced to be a troll and live in the basemant.

I go on a Three Strike basis. First time, ignore. Second time, ignore. Third time, they're going with me for a visit to the Throat of the World.

I like this idea greatly...

I REALLY hate this. Aela does it all the time, and despite her being a good steward, I feel like shooting an arrow into her eye socket whenever she does that to me.

Mouthy followers get to meet my dragon, or are taken to visit my torture chamber. hmm... anyone know if you can make Cicero a steward or not? That jester is anoying as hell but his personality does add quite a bit of color to the game.

as for gaurds... arrow to the knee comments = automatic cut throat. to be shortly followed by hiding the naked body under the nearest bridge. Vampires and Dragons are not the biggest threats to the NPC population of skyrim. I am.

Yeah, agreed. It's a matter which has been discussed a lot. The fact that your accomplishments aren't registered by the people of Skyrim is very immersion-breaking. Especially in the Thieves guild. where you're told "so you're the new kid Brynjolf's been bragging about..." if you're Guild Master, or having free-lance mages say "If you're interested in magic, you should check out the college", instead of my expecting them to go "Arch-Mage! It's an honour to meet you". Same goes for the Civil War. If it's finished, I don't expect people to speak of certain events even after it is finished (don't know how to do the spoiler button so I kept it subtle!). That's one of my biggest gripes about the role-playing element of this game.
