Recommend me awesome books or pieces of literature

I want to find some literature that I can read during this summer. So I'm asking you guys for advice. The books can be "must-read books", the kind of books that a civilized man must have read. They can be any kind of books(with the exception of romance and horror). Also, the books need to have at least a degree of popularity, not the kind that I can't find it all over the country. As long as the book is good, I might check it out.No spoilers though. And no, I don't mean the Song of Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin,Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, or Lord of The Rings by John R.R. Tolkien. They can be new, old,as long as there isn't some weird stuff in them(things like Satanism, hentait, etc.) and they are of good quality, I will consider them.Thank you upfront.

Currently reading and enjoying the Bertie Gunther series by Phillip Kerr. About a German detective in the 30s and 40s, lots of moral ambiguity.

I approve of this list, it has Kafka in it. Read Kafka. You must.

Alternatively, you can go with something more recent and American, like Cormac McCarthy. I'm slowly running out of his novels and I'm afraid I'll be suffering a withdrawal syndrome.

Don't forget Orwell's 1984 if you haven't read it already, it seems to be necessary to join any proper Xbox One conversation. :hehe:

Yeah, they're good. I thought the second book was too long and not focused enough, but I guess it's just the way Rothfuss writes. I hope the next one has more substance though.

To be honest, just pick up and start readng any book that is considered a Classic. :)
The Classics have stood the test of time, and even if they are outside your normal genre, they will entertain simply because they are masterpieces of Literature.

Some of my favourties...
Moby dike
1984
The Count of Monte Cristo
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
Don Quixote

If you want somethig a bit more casual, Tom Robbins and Kurt Vonnegut are masters of the satyrical/hilarious drama.

By MK:
In any case, it's the True name of the world.
Imagine an ape (Marukh) struggling to say "Tamriel" and you get "Tam! RUGH!"
