Red Robes

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 10:18 am

I was returning back to my house, Lakeview Manor, when my son, Alesan, stopped me, and gave me two pairs of 'Red Robes'. These are normal robes, but are white, with a red trim. In all the time I have been playing Skyrim, I have never even heard of these. Have they been added in Hearthfire, or am I just being silly?

They were always in the game, but never obtainable unless you used console commands.

only gotten green or blue robes. which while it was cool the girls got me something... I'd have prefered maybe some iron or something else. Sorry girls, don't wear robes. :(

I thought I saw some like it in a Youtube video displaying every type of apparel in the game (including ones only available via console commands)

The face sculptor wears them, except she appears to be wearing a hooded version of them.

Some of the Vampires that randomly attack you in cities (and, duh, out in the boonies too...where is my head at?) wear Black Robes (not the hooded kind that those Emperor Palpatine-looking "Traveler" bastards wear--oh dear, how I loathe those things), which are just like the Red & Green Robes. Those odd Blue Robes that mages occasionally wear (but that have no enchantments etc) are also the same thing.

Even though they aren't technically "new" and have no real function, there is something oddly cool about the Red and Green Robes. Maybe it's because only your kids can give them to you (and the fact that 99.999999% of the gifts or "LOOK WHAT I FOUND! HERE, KEEP IT!" items you get from them are just beyond lame...as is coming home after like a week of in-game time only to hear them say "you're home! [long pause that builds up anticipation...]," followed by "...wanna play a...game?" I mean that is straight up old school NES game, throw your controller at the wall frustrating/irritating/maddening.

Yeah! I wanna play a game alright: it's called there's gonna be a meeting between your ass and the palm of my hand unless you don't greet me at the door with useless crap!!!!!

All I want my kids to greet me with is a pet. One little pet. But no, after all this time playing Hearthfire, not even a baby mudcrab has come my way...

I thought they caught this part of RL with kids really well. Because in RL your kid is super proud to present you with a dandelion he picked all by himself. And he doesn't want to hear about you hard day at work, he just wants a pony ride because now you're home so you can do that.

Except for how in RL you get to gently tell your children that, actually, Dandelions aren't really flowers but plague-like weeds that ruin your lawn...and though they may seem nice, they actually murder all the real, pretty flowers that make mommy happy!

There just aren't enough opportunities to be short, quick-tempered, pissey, or just good old mean to your kids on this game. Hell, you can hardly interact with your spouse.

We see things differently, I would tell mine they can pick all the lovely yellow dandelions for me that they wanted. (getting them out of the grass) *shrug*

I will keep waiting for the red robes, I have the green. And maybe Lucia or Blaise will bring home a bunny or baby mud crab. lol

Of course in real life, I would never tell my kids (or even kids of friends, my nephew, my ex's son, etc) that crap about dandelions (my mom did that to me about another kind of non-weed flower that are pretty but very common and they sorta smell like feet, and it was so beyond a downer that I can't even describe it...I've told that story to every chick friend and girlfriend I've ever had, and yes, also told my old therapist [there it is! in case my posts don't scream "boy, THIS TIM IS ONE NEUROTIC SOB!" loud enough!], AND THEY ALL just stared at me in horror...I mean, when a jaded ass, lifelong, middle-aged therapist does that, it sort of puts thing in perspective... : ), but I'd love to say it to the brats in this game!

RE the Red Robes, just the other day I was reloading auto-saves during one of those "hear! I found a piece of dog poop that looks like Jesus!" moments that I keep [censored]ing about, and even though I had the Green Robes already (they were in my inventory even), Hrefna done bust out and gave me Red Robes outta nowhere. Of course, it was like the 20th try or so (I'm so not exaggerating BTW--I think I wrote it down...no, it was the 15th or 16th try....I told y'all I'm a dork ; p)

BTW, I don't know what six your character is, but mine is female, so after I got the Green and then the Red Robes, I made a whole get up for her like her kids got her a Mother's Day present or something....there's Weth's Comfy Shoes (I looked up Germanic and Nordic names before I made a Nord character...don't laugh! as a history nerd bordering-on-being a history Nazi, it is my responsibility! I had another named Sandraudiga but I gave her that butch-type hair that, ahem, glitches and disappears every other second...so...) that I made with those shoes you can buy at Radiant Rainment or find that don't weigh anything, along with Weth's Comfy slippers for which I grabbed some brigand-style Fur Shoes (plus I enchanted them with Muffle and 150+ Fortify Carry Weight...my own secret FE potion...SHHHH!).

Yes, yes...I'm a dork...

I, on the other hand, am still waiting for any pet other than a GOT-DAMN rabbit or fox! I shudder to think of what I would do to another human being for a mud crab!

If you only have daughters, that's all you'll get. Boys bring the skeevers and mudcrabs while girls bring the foxes and rabbits, at least in my experience.

How do you get your kid to bring home a spider?

I don't think you can. I can't find any evidence of the pet FB Spider actually existing.

if one of mine did bring home a spider, they'd probably get about as far as "can I......" before they had a DEAD spider.

I. Hate. Spiders.

Period.

Fair enough. I'm inclined to agree.

I actually like spiders IRL. They kill flies. I don't like spiders in Skyrim. They kill people.

Bunnies are great.
Foxes are OK.
Skeevers are borderline (I've worked with rats, don't mind them that much).
Mudcrabs and Frostbite spiders are unwelcome. Sorry, kids.

when they're outside I love them. Ever watch what a big, totally preggers spider (or I guess any spider that uses a web...d'oh!) does to its prey when they get caught? TOTALLY amazing.

When they're inside...? I have a rule: if I don't have so much as the slightest f**king clue that you're in my house, hey, my arachnid friend, rock out with your damn ____ out. If I see you, however (especially if you're large enough to practically have a friggin' face, and I almost feel like we're making eye contact), prepare to die and do so painfully, you butt ugly abomination of nature.

Ahem. As you were!

I think I got palpitations just reading your post......I am, ummm, arachnophobic to a fair degree. The first time I saw/fought a frost spider, I was glad it was a weekend, because I had a tall, strong, advlt beverage when it was done! I am used to them now, but still would not miss them if I never saw one again! Spiders in my house??? I'd be like Ripley with the flame thrower!

I'm pretty jealous. I really, really want some decent robes in Skyrim that either look exquisite or have sweet enchantments. I wore Black Hands robes in Obliv for the longest time and in Morrowind, who doesn't wear robes?

LOL... even though there are 5 boys available and 3 girls, the girls seem to get adopted the most. I think Lucia's the most popular adoptee, but it's really close. Sofie and Runa are close behind, Blaise and Samuel seem to be the boys likeliest to be chosen. Hroar and Francois seem to be the Honorhall Lifer Club.

I think that when I get HF, my Dunmer (she was my first character so first pick goes to her) will choose Blaise and Lucia. One orphan from her old hometown, one from her new one.
